I would say that he did. He showed boxing skills and ring IQ that I didn’t think he had. He used the jab so well and mixed it up with his variety of shots to the head and body. He was also in trouble in that 9th, but he survived it, regained his composure and had control of the fight in the 10th onwards. I also thought that several weeks after Joshua got smashed all over shop by a small tubby Mexican, Whyte showed how to handle a smaller, more mobile fighter.
It would've been a statement if he didn't get put on his backside. When you're chasing Wilder you don't want to be put down by Oscar Rivas. There's no shame in it, especially because he recovered quite well but Wilder won't be worried in the slightest after seeing him go down again against shorter/lighter hitting fighters than him.
Spot on. I’d give him a C+. There was some improvements such as the jab, the body shots were there again but that was outweighed by his lack of power and the fact he got floored.
Yeah I think the knockdown worries Wilder a lot less, it could play into Whytes hands though, Wilder takes Whyte as he sees him as an easier proposition now, then on the night Whytes toughness takes him by surprise.
