Just as bad as the other divisions. Look at Marquez still ruling in his forties. Hopkins ruling in his fifties basically. Mayweather what 36-37? Newer generation sucks in ALL divisions. This is a lull in boxing unlike anything we have ever seen. Lots of hype jobs. Everybody talks smack about the Klitschkos but the quality of boxers in the lower divisions is pretty bad, board is full of little men fans.
I would have picked the "Its very good and getting better" option but don't agree with the second part, nobody can predict the future.
What makes you think its "very good"? Top fighters don't fight each other nor as often, and skills and stamina as a whole have declined. There if very little body punching or inside fighting and there is more clinching than a Ruiz family reunion.
Could you clarify first if you mean the standard for right now as in this year or basically the entire era since Lewis retired?
For the entire era. You can pick out some bright spots right now, but as a whole era I find terrible for the reasons I've stated.
Klitschkos are the very best, they are not only the biggest, but have more skills than the others................
This! I mean people can go **** themselfs if they say that the divison are dying. There is good matchups to be made and It won't be long until both brothers retire and a whole new world opens up.
Well in that case I see no reason why Waldo, Vitali, Povetkin, Byrd, Ibragimov, Chagaev, Peter, Haye, Gomez, Adamek, and Sanders couldn't hold there own in any era and manage to break into the top 10. Sure they're not going to be beating the ATG's left right and centre but they would give a good account of themselves. There's a lot myths and lore about the HW division from years gone by, one of the most prominent of those was the apparent stacked divisions back then. Even during the golden era of Ali we see basically a journey man in Henry Cooper make The Ring top 10 no less than 7 times, SEVEN TIMES! I genuinely would not make Cooper favourite against any of those names mentioned above and I doubt even you would back Cooper in those fights if your life depended on it. Also I think it's quite telling that the chap (David Price) that was supposed to usher in a new era of dominace got wiped out by an old second tier fighter from this era. Do you remember the Price quotes before that fight? "It's not a matter of wether Price wins a World title, it's a more about how long he reigns undisputed" "Price will certainly surpass Klitschko legacy wise and probably Lewis too" "Price is better than Lewis and wlad at the same stage". Probably for another thread but the dividing of talent with new divisions and raising the weight classes has also come in since the olden days. Where on fight night today we see light heavies coming into the ring the same height and weight as the giant for his time Ali.
i voted worst ever, but not because there are no good heavyweights out there but because they don t fight each other.povetkin is ducking everybody, the bitchko sisters don t fight each other and fight against nobodys...haye doesnt even like boxing.he is just looking for the money...really skilled boxer like malik scott don t get title shots...**** this hw era.
People forget how the 80es or parts of the 90es where. Back then Moorer was top level. Yet was KOed hard by old and fat Foreman. Every Era has it ups and downs. MAybe this era has not that many top contenders. But the top level is not worse (at leat tot much) than in the 90es
What do you mean???????? Potvetkin is 100X the fighter Leon Spinks was. He'd beat Leon Spinks 100/100 times. And Haye and Adamek, and you could throw Cunningham and Huck in there too......those four guys would be 210 lb beasts up until the mid 70s. All of them shatter Cooneys and Nortons glass, and tbh, only Holmes, Tyson and maybe Witherspoon beat them more often than not, during the 80s. Those 4 wouldnt be stepping up in weight during the previous eras, they would be natural heavies. And another point I'd like to make....... Men hit their prime between 27-33 y/o, generally speaking. Mayweather and Pacqioua are bonafide WWs, whereas they began their career fighting at much lower weights, Pacqioua, almost 40lbs less because he started at 15 y/o. Using your logic, we could go back to any era, any division, and dismantle the GOATs resume saying he beat a stack of blown up (insert random divisions)...... Yeah, Lewis was good, but he beat a bunch of blown up minimum weights. Seeing as they all weighed 100 lbs at some point in their lives.:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
Did I say that? I talked about TOP LEVEL! So Vitali and Wladimir. Moorer was top level back then! Lineal Champion! Yet was KOed by a slow, fat and old Foreman. Man these punches from Foreman were all so slow. Noway Vitali or WLadimir would get catched by these. If you say Foreman could KO Vitali or Wladimir it is only your opinion. I dont see it.
