Agreed on all points. Thanks, Reg. I didn't know you were in Philly. I'm in Wilkes-Barre. Good stuff. Hard not to like boxing if you're in Philly.
Stop tea-bagging Cotto's balls, you're the kind of wanker that makes Cotto think he can rematch AM without getting his balls smashed again. Cotto is a great warrior but he is stylistcally disadvantaged against AM, almost his perfect nemesis. Cotto has a lot to offer. He can beat all WWs except AM and probably PW. He can have a mega-payday against PBF, ODLH or even Pac if he can beat a few tomato can wannabe promos like Berto, Hatton, that NY f--kwit who talks but has about as much pop in his punch as a smurf etc. He could match-up with Cintron and have a Puerto Rico knockout to see who fights ODLH after he plays with Pac.
We don't know how bad it was. It's a pointless question, nobody can answer that with any certainty until he gets back in the ring. All we can say was it was a pretty crushing loss, probably mentally and physically looking at the nature of it. His career certainly isn't finished. He can ease himself back in, and there are plenty of fights in the division. If the loss does not prove to have damaged him then who would you honestly favour over him other than Margarito? So he's far from done career wise.
I think he lost a lot in the sense of his immediate future (fights with Oscar and Floyd) but he may have also opened a new door to gain the respect of the other side of boxing fans he didn't have, for example, the kind of fans who get sick of people loving an undefeated fighter, although sometimes with reason due to all of the nut hugging. Now he has a chance to comeback, and if he is able to not only regain the form he had, but improve it, than this lose may be looked upon as a real gain for Cotto down the road. But like you said, he's already scheduled to rematch Margarito.
Good post. Cotto will come back stronger because the loss exposed weaknesses in his game that he can improve. DEFENCE - so many times Cotto could've broken up Margo's attacks by strategic holding. It may not be pretty, but it's certainly more effective than taking punch after punch to the skull. Cotto must watch video after video after video of BERNARD HOPKINS til his eyes burn. STAMINA - Cotto seemed to gas. It was a high intensity fight, but he still should be able to last 12 rounds better. BODYPUNCHING - He now knows he should never choose not to do this in a fight again. It was one of Cotto's big strengths before the fight. He must work hard on improving how he sets up bodyshots and how he bases his game around them. Cotto fought really well in the 1st half of the fight, it wasn't a total domination of a fight, so there are positives to take out of the experience. If he works on the three things that let him down on the night, he will be a better fighter. However, can he come back from the mental blow of his defeat? Only time will tell.
Plain and simple for the ball-suckers out there: 1. Cotto got a severe beatdown - he even avoided the climax (which was smart IMO) of getting totally KTFO by taking a knee and conceding (quitting). 2. Very few fighters can come back from such a beating. HOWEVER, if there is a guy who can do it, I would hope Cotto can. Everything else is speculation - he hasn't even fought again. No-one knows but I suspect he won't ever be the same.
Cotto will come back hes been hit by ricardo torres judah and mosley and he held up against margaritos punches well until his stamina led him to staying stationary and being crushed. Cotto needs to some how increase his stamina maybe he could go train with mosely in big bear at high altitudes to train. They both are looking to fight margo so that wouldnt be a bad idea. If cotto gets his stamina going he can easily beat margo like he did for 6 rounds BOXING AND MOVING
