Still have not seen this fight so forgive me, but people keep telling me that the last 5 rounds Margarito destroyed him, was the beating so bad that Cotto will never be the same again or are people overating it.

I'd be more worried about him mentally. But the way he's handled it since the fight has been very encouraging that he'll be back and better than ever.

Pretty bad I'd give it a 6.5/10 with 10 meaning going half dead to the hospital and waking up without your arms and legs

There is a lot of hand holding on the Margie Bandwagon.
They are clearly overating Margies win....he didn't knock Cotto
out....Cotto took a knee in the 11th from exhaustion.

Margarito was given a boxing lesson the first 5-6 rounds.
The 7th was close with the exception of Cotto getting stunned
for a few moments by a succession of a few uppercuts while on
    the ropes.

The following rounds were close...Margie was able to land some
and Cotto voluntarily went to the ropes...I guess that is why some
    are saying Margie dominated.
The 11th was even close....that is when he had no more to give after
he hit Margie with everything including the Kitchen sink.

Cotto said on Friday that he does want a rematch and it will be different fight and I say again Margie knows it.

whats stopping you from watching it?

    it was pretty bad.

this fight has def put some damage to Cotto's confidence especially, because it didnt matter at all what he did to Margarito throughout the fight.

The fight was going on Cotto's favor the first 5-6 rounds. Trouble started as early as the 2nd round for Cotto when he was tagged in the nose. The corner had to work on the nose all night and started impairing his breathing. Margo turned on the pressure by the 7th and managed to tag Cotto in the mouth by the 8th (Cotto relied on breathing thru his mouth, now he started swallowing blood). Margo clearly turned the tide and by the 10th it looked like it was only a matter of time until Margo would close the show. The fight ended on the 11th after a Kd, when Cotto put his knee down and the corner threw in the towel. At the start of the round the fight was even, by the end, Margo was up by 2 points.

Margarito took a hellacious beating from Cotto as well, and there's a post-fight photo around that shows as such. But yes, the mental beatdown is what I'd be more concerned with.

I agreed the mental breakdown is the worst thing for any fighter... but you brought a good point... margarito was taken severe hard punches from cotto... how would this affect his health in the future and could punishment like this actually slow him little by little in future fights...

funny because ESPN had a section where Ali fought someone, cant recall his name... Ali said it was his toughest opponent ever... the dude lost against Ali, but was joking around saying the real winner doesnt go to the hospital after the fight, Ali was pissing blood... I went out dancing the same night with my wife...

That may have been the first fight with George Chuvalo.

You can believe what you want, but Margo beat the crap out of Cotto. Yeah Cotto landed monster shots for over half of the fight, but you could see him wilting by Round 7. Basically, Margo mauled him, hit him on the arms shoulder or anywhere the gloves fit. Cotto took a knee twice to keep from getting knocked out, in other words he submitted himself to Margo. Cotto is doing a good job of talking post-fight, but we will see what happens in his next fight, especially if its against an elite fighter as he reportedly wants. Also, I will posit this, I think Cotto's landing of big shots for over half of the fight may have taken a little something out of Margo as well - I think that iron beard has probably been softened a bit. :bbb

Bad enough. I'm not sure it's the career ending type, but time will tell.
