For the first time I think in history someone just questioned me saying that Morrison had chin problems. I'm wondering if there's just one other person who thinks Morrison didnt have chin problems. **** I'd love to see if there is anyone here who didnt think Morrison's chin was flat out terrible. So did Morrison have chin problems?
He definitely had some chin issues, but I wouldn't call it pure glass by any stretch. He withstood alot of punishment in his career.
Hard to think that after that, he beat Joe Hipp with a broken jaw and went the distance with Foreman. Then Bentt stops him in 1. It really doesn't make sense, but not making sense is Tommy's career in a nutshell.
Unfortunately it was very shaky. He could've been a hell of a fighter if he'd had an iron chin. I watched Morrison-Mercer the other day and he was giving Mercer a boxing lesson every second of the fight for the first 3-4 rounds. He was moving and putting punches together like a middleweight, heavyweights today just don't look like that. Anyway, Mercer landed some big punches at the end of the 4th or 5th, Tommy got rocked and never recovered and was knocked out the next round in that brutal sequence.
His defence was poor which left him very open to getting tagged with big shots and unless you have a chin like Tua or McCall you're gonna look chinny.
His chin wasn't particularly hard, but it wasn't particularly soft either. Tommy ate a ton of good shots from some very hard hitting opponents in his day without going down, but if you caught him clean he could be in trouble. Kinda like Lennox Lewis, but maybe not quite as bad. Lennox would just fold like a sack of potatoes when he would get caught right on the button.
