How bad would Mike Tyson beat Joe Frazier?

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Ravishing Rick, Oct 6, 2011.

  1. honestly..... i think that the very best tyson 1988 would stop peak frazier, frazier was down by oscar bonavena twice, (yes frazier was green in 1966 but he was hurt also against joe bugner...) , tyson had the power to hurt frazier early, and i think that he would do, and he was a very good finisher, of course if frazier is fighting still in the round 6 , tyson would be in trouble. but i would put my money on that peak tyson would stop frazier before joe take the control of the fight. frazier would stop any other version of mike. peak vs peak, tyson by tko in 4 rounds(never ko for the count), simply frazier had disadvantage in the style

Prime for Prime Tyson all day long! Punches far crisper, harder and throws lightening combinations mid range that Frazier doesn't deal with. Frazier appeared to be the better in-fighter but I believe Tyson showed great infighting in some battles...Rudduck 1 he worked body and head until the disputed stoppage. Tyrell Biggs was picked apart body and head. Some of the excessive holding that Tyson had to endure was testament to his punching power...name 5 fighters that held Frazier as much, with similar dimensions to Tucker, Smith , Green, even Holyfield although using Holyfield as a barometer isn't safe as Tyson was far past his prime....anybody who thinks that Tyson after prison was anything like pre-prison is certainly a Hater.

I just put everything in mind...Prime Tyson/Frazier and I see Tyson having the better chin, footwork, threw more punches, was stronger physically....there's always the question of whether Frazier, who fought for 3mins of a round, would come on strong in the 2nd half of the fight, but Tyson proved in his war against the huge punching Ruddock in the 2nd fight that he could withstand pressure....I just see Tyson's early onslaught doing to much damage to the walk in straight lines style of frazier and if not an early Ko then a one-sided beatdown for 12 rds.

Well, I'm admittedly a Big Tyson fan and I don't have him in my top ten p4p over the last 40 years. "Nuthugging" or what have you isn't my business. That said, Mike actually did accomplish quite a bit and in a extremely short period of time. Along with being the youngest heavyweight champion ever, he unified the fragmented titles and became undisputed, and reigned over six successful defenses. His 9 WBC defenses and 8 WBA are both good for top 3 since circa 1962 and I believe no worse than top five tracing back to when the WBA was the NBA and WBC was basically under NYSAC lineage. Now, he didn't fight in the greatest era obviously, but still great accomplishments IMO. In the short history of the IBF, only Wlad has more defenses. For a career, he's 3rd all-time in first round KOs within the division. He more or less had already built a HOF career by the time he was 23 years old.

Tyson is definitely a product of marketing and hype, but the man did possess an unbelievable combination of power and hand speed, mixed with very good bob and weave defense (particularly in the early rounds at least) and decent foot work. At his best, he could give any ATG heavyweight a run for their money.

Joe Frazier once met fellow-boxer Ken Norton at a social gathering. I am not sure if a fight followed the conversation below.

Frazier: Hey man, what you been doing?
Norton: My wife just had a baby.
Frazier? Congratulations! Whose baby is it?

    Tyson beats Frazier by stoppage b4 d 5th round's end .
Something more brutal than what Bonavena did 2 him and Quarry did but with a finishing effort , successful of course . D 5th round prediction is only due 2 myself being polite , generous , respectful and safe in my prediction .

    1. **** the TS, again. With a pineapple. In his anus.

    2. Hag, while you're vying for my favourite heavyweight in history, and going by the handle of my favourite middleweight in history...the highlighted is a silly bunch of nonsense that has been repeated over and over to the point where some stop busting the myth and don't even bother anymore. Please stop perpetuating it.

True, its very difficult to measure when a fighter is at his peak.

Some fighters primes can last one fight, some can last 2 years etc.

IMO the Tyson of the Berbick fight was much better than the Spinks fight.

I think this is a close fight. Frazier, on his best day, could beat just about anyone. If Frazier survives an early onslaught and drags it into the deep depths of the later rounds, he could beat tyson.
