if people can remember that time in boxing, jones responded to his calzaghe schooling by dominating sheika and lacey in really impressive fashion. he was a huge favourite going into the green fight and people believed he could even pick up another title or atleast still be relevant. but then he lost in the first round and went on to lose horribly to hopkins.
he was probably going to lose ...but when the ref stopped the fight green hadnt hit him flush since the orginal punch,..... bad stoppage...hurt his ego, thats all
No doubt hes shaken But RJJ is a proud warrior, for him to get back into the ring with Hopkins and then want to continue fighting despite showing off his worst 13 rounds in his career shows that he still have that one minded, stubborn confidence The main thing that has been shaken is his physical attributes, more than confidence
I'm sure the Pensicola crowd will build him back up to his best, at least for the best in this point of his career anyway.
with that fight...reality set in. and then stubborness overcame said reality. yeah he's still fighting b/c he's a fighter and is too stubborn to admit he shouldnt. but deep down he knows. the green fight probably put an !!! on it.
ye his legacy aint in question really. but he was a top 10 lhw at the time he lost, and he was seen as still a live contender.
He looked SO SHOT against Hops, but honestly, he won a moral victory of sorts in that "fight", because Hopkins' dirty tactics and whining were deplorable. Also, for all the talk about hopkins being a master "crafty" fighter: The only good work Roy did in that whole fight was on the inside. I'd tell you to go watch the fight again for proof, but wouldn't wish that on anyone.
ye i aint ever watching it again, when hopkins is the busy pressure fighter, you know somethin aint right.
that porcelin cheen of jones had been glued back together and then suddenley it got smashed into a thousand pieces again :dead thats the problem with having a china chin, it can be shattered at any given minute :deal
that is very true, this is why certain losses can be devastating. which i believe the green loss was. it virtually ended his hopes of competing at the top level again.
