Henry Cooper was left handed and boxed orthodox his entire career so landing his dominant hand on Cassius Clay (Ali) would have been painful in 1963 . The rematch in 1966 Muhammad Ali had learnt his lesson and it was quite a different match up compared to their first fight.

If I was a Brit (and actually alive in 1963, which I wasn’t :D) I would’ve been screaming my tits off when Henry dropped Ali.

What an incredible moment in boxing history and especially for Brit fans.

With all the facts in place, it’s still a great subject for discussion and always will be.

Imagine being one of the very few to have ever put Ali down…and with a single shot and without it being atop the effects of prior, accumulated, heavy punishment…no less - one monster left hook on a fresh Ali that dropped him hard and arguably had him in his most groggy state ever…good thing that the ropes softened Ali’s fall also…:D

I did see the rematch between Muhammad Ali vs Henry Cooper on May 21 1966, it was shown live on ABC's Wide World Of Sports, Ali cut up Cooper real bad, the fight had to be stopped in round 6, it took 14 sutures to seal up Cooper's laceration, no knockdown in this title bout.

"We have to get him to a hospital."

    "What is it?!"

"A big building for sick people, but that's not important right now."

Love their movies, Naked Gun the most. Top Secret is very underrated, though.

Yeah, no way in absolute hell is Ali quitting that fight on his stool while ahead on the cards and having closed Frazier's eye. It's a fantasy. He'd go and give it all until he collapsed a 100 times out of a 100. It's a bad joke that it's even a debate.

The mother****er wanted to continue against Holms for ****'s sake. With five rounds to go and not the slightest chance to win. But he's going to quit on his stool only three minutes from retaining his title and winning the trilogy with his fiercest rival? Get the **** out of here. That's really all that can be said about that.

Really? I didn't know that. Thanks Mac. I guess the old radio would've still been somewhat exciting to listen to. When I can't watch a fight that I'd like to see, I enjoy reading the RBR, round by round threads in the General Forum - not least for the arguments that arise between members re the differences in their perceptions and score cards. Lol.
