IMHO Cotto wasn't physically devastated the way some people have made it seem. I don't think he needs to take a "year off." Fischer and Kim, as well as the guys who do GYGB, and others, are all saying Cotto needs to take at least a year, and that he was physically destroyed. What is your view? Was Cotto beaten down that bad?

i think i get tired of hearing how damaged guys get nowadays. any brutal fight you get some kid posting if they didnt stop that fight or if this guy keeps fighting hes gonna get hurt. well what about the old days, look at guys like lamotta and zale and the wars they had, and those guys fought twice as much as modern guys, how did they survive?

I totally disagree with the people that say Cotto should take a year off ! He was the best at 147 and is at the peak of his career, he needs to get back in the ring at least early 2009 against a good competitor. Cotto took a beating but not in a totally devastating fashion in my opinion...

I think Arum will match Margarito against the winner of Clottey-Judah later in the year. Cotto could possibly take another fight against Shane Mosley or if not then someone like Collazo .

I think you misread/misheard something somewhere. I have not read Fisher or Kim say Cotto should take a year off. They have said that a rematch shouldn't take place anytime soon- the earliest a year from now. They have said that Cotto should take the rest of the year off which is completely understandable as Cotto has had a pretty busy schedule for the past few years, and against mostly really good competition. He definitely deserves a break. I think Cotto will have at least have his next fight scheduled by the end of the year- at the latest.

It wasnt like a Corrales-Castillo beatdown. Cotto will be alright.

LOL, is this Steve Kim?No need for the clarification for two reasons, 1) it's really not that important, 2) you and I haven't compared notes.

He took a very good beating, but he can fight again before the year is over.

It only takes one fight man, look at G-Man...
That story damn near brings a tear to my eye.

(Obviously this didnt happen to Cotto, I'm just saying)

Damage was more of a mental issue, and i feel the longer he takes off the worse it will be for his career.

Both Cotto and Margo took a lot of punishment and is probably wise to take the rest of the year off.

Cotto may have been hurt physically some yes but he was beaten more mentally than physically. He gave up. He was hurt yes but he was not knocked out, if you watch the end he just gave up when he took a knee for the second time. Cotto needs to get back as soon as possible and regain composure. I'd suggest cotto fight Cintron to get some of his confidence back

They didn't. Back in those days, most of the time your career was over by the age of 30, if not earlier. On today's schedule, you can still be a worthy fighter at 35+. Just look at Casamayor, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Toney, and many others.
