Yea....but no one really thought Floyd is the greatest of all time. Floyd talks alot but talking doesn't build a legacy. I agree this is NOT the best version of Shane, but it's still a very good version of him...who is very dangerous. You do make a very valid point though. I would say that styles make fights and IF Floyd looses to Shane...which I don't think he will, I think he'll take a small step back in terms of his legacy but overall he'll still be considered one of the best in this era. BASED PURELY on his talent, ablity and dominance....the resuem is suspect bc there really arn't that many GREAT fighters on his resume aside from DLH. So you have a point that gives me plenty of food for thought.

Nice!:good Good way to make your point. I just don't know.........I just really feel it will depend on how Shane wins or how Floyd looses. But you could be right.

Yeah, and you're right with the styles make fights and all. I just think it all comes down to who you fought, who you beat in most people eyes. Floyd is criticized alot because he measures risk vs reward and is very selective and picky choosy with who he fights. But the 1 thing that keeps him on top, no matter how bad you want to discredit him, he HAS beaten and looked very impressive against top fighters, he has never lost and he still has that 'mystique' as the perfect boxer in a sense, meaning in a hypothetical matchup, you HAVE to give him a chance because a) we have never seen anyone actually beat him and b) he has the ability it seems to fight conservatively/safely and make people box him and in that game, he will win. BUT, if we see an old Shane break him and get through his intelligence and overall talent and skill and beat him convincingly. He loses all of that, and those criticisms about him cherry picking are gonna drown him. I really fear for ANYONE trying to defend him on this site if he loses to shane  :patsch

And it's so ****ed up because as you said, Shane is a GREAT fighter and a beast at WW and NOBODY should be criticized for losing to him. Except Pac and Floyd at the current time, those two ideally should be able to beat him now if they are to live up to their reputations.

Zab Judah was a real welterweight and was undisputed, so was Baldomir. They may not have the resume of Shane but Floyd has fought champions at this level before. People are so quick to forget. Also, if he loses, it will just prove Shane was good and better.

His legacy as of now is "The great boxer who avoids...". But if he loses to Shane, then he'll be the fraud that a lot of people think he is (except his most avid fans), but if he wins, HE'S THE MAN as he always claimed he was.

100%....a fighters legacy is 90% what you do, who you do it against and how you well you do it...the other 10% is based on the ability, talent and overall record. Having an undefeated record these days doesn't mean that much, but it's still nice to have. But yea......Floyd has a very hazy mystique that he's created by staying undefeated and dominating the very good opposition he's faced. But for me Floyd is a GREAT talent and has great skills.......His ability is top notch but for me his resume while very good, falls short of greatness.....Great Boxer with a very good resume...similar to Joe C. I think Floyd's style will allow him to pot shot shane to the point where he is winning based on landing more and being more accurate and avoiding the trenches where Shane needs to FORCE floyd into. If they go at it...toe to toe...Shane will get his licks in and put the hurt on Floyd....I just see floyd not allowing this to happen. Floyd has faster feet and his cautious style will keep him out of harms way.

This is without a doubt TRUE! Shane as great as he is.....is past his best physical prime. He's more crafty now and more intelligent especially with Naz in the corner but Shane in his PRIME is a PROBLEM.....overall I think Shane was at his best 2 or 3 yrs ago. Even though he wasn't in his PHSYICAL prime he still was operating at a high level with most of his physical attributes clicking on all cylinders.

    It wouldn't at all, imo.

At least not as badly as a win over Matthew Hatton would have dented his legacy.

Hard to say. He will go down as someone who at least wanted to fight a good fighter, but it will make it look like the first time he really stepped up he lost. So it will probably hurt it.
