.....Tucker had not broken his right hand in the fourth round. One handed Tucker was able to take Tyson to the 12th and final round. Not to mention, he hurt Tyson early and often.

This is silly did he hurt his hand in the fight? I doubt anything injured in the fight should be used as an excuse.

Never heard Tucker use his broken hand as an excuse. It was just obvious watching this fight that Tucker was in control until he broke his right hand.

The only reason Tucker lasted the full 12 is because he had an iron chin and fought to survive, not to win, from round 3 on.

Tucker never really showed that fire and desire needed to pull out a hard win. He seemed to just be going through the motions. A lot of physical talent, but that's not enough.

Also he didn't hurt Tyson "often". He stunned Tyson once with a left (not right) uppercut in the opening minute, but it's not like Tyson was holding. He kept going forward and Tucker was unable to stop him or effectively win rounds. Tucker is famous for going 12 with a prime Tyson without constantly holding like Smith, though holding was what he did mostly for the second half of the fight. But other than that, his accomplishments are lacking strongly. He was getting beat by Douglas until the latter gassed.

Tucker having a good right hand or not would not have made much difference. He was mentally beaten and couldn't turn things around. If he had mixed it up more, he would've gotten stopped and he knew it.

    Well, you're half right.

Credit to Tucker for going the distance, he was always a durable bugger, and yes he had that uppercut to lunch out on. But really, it wasn't close and I don't think the hand injury affected things all that much...Tucker's entire career was plagued by periods of inactivity in a fight.

At most I can see 9-3 in his favour, no better.

whats his excuse for the rest of his career?
after he fought Tyson in 1987 he fought GARBAGE fights until McCall in 1992
    and Lewis in 1993....
somehow he manaed to avoid Holyfield, Foreman, Bowe, Mercer, Ruddock, Moorer, Holmes, and for that matter, if his fight against tyson was so GREAT why no rematch?
looks like you watched espn weds night fights last night where they mentioned it. tucker fought to survive and thats just what he did against a 22 year old mike tyson. BFD

What do you mean? Tucker broke both hands in those fights. How soon would he have KOed McCall and Lewis if he hadn't left his broken hands in th locker room before those fights?

Actually i think it was other way around many avoided Tucker! BTW Foreman did not face Tucker when he was mandatory for his Wba title back in 1995 so he was striped and for WBA fought Seldon and Tucker!

Who knows how the fight against Tyson would have turned out if he would not have hurt his right hand! I think it would have been closer but Tyson would still have beaten him IMO!

    BTW I'm huge Tyson fan!
