Not that big, he's a solid 6ft3 and 220lbs but he's really had to work out like a lunatic to build that muscle-mass, his frame is nothing like as big as Larry Holmes or Muhammed Ali, who were also 6ft3 and 220lbs ish but weren't anything like as ripped.
The difference betweeb him and say a Holmes is that Holmes was a natural heavy Haye had to build himself up a little.....and aside from Holyfield most havent been to successful for a long period of time
The difference is, when Haye gets hit with a genuine HW hayemaker, his HW career will be over- as opposed to Holmes, or Ali, or.....
It depends on which heavyweight division you're talking about. Haye was a big cruiser and apparently had problems making the 200lb. limit for the Maccarinelli fight. Holmes fought in an era where heavyweights in general were much smaller than the behemoths of today. Remember, Marciano supposedly only weighed 185lbs....he would have been considered a smallish cruiserweight by today's standards. But if you look at Hayes physique, as with the case of Holyfield, its obvious that they have both done a considerable amount of weight training, hence that ripped, muscular, bodybuilder look....whereas guys like Holmes, Foreman and Ali where natural Heavyweights and usually needed to slim down for a fight rather than bulk up. What Haye lacks in natural size, he will more than make up for with athleticism, speed and punching power....however, unlike Holyfield, he lacks that granite chin. In other words, I'll be suprised if Haye ever becomes the undisputed champion of the Heavyweight division. I haven't been on here in a while, but I'm really amused sometimes at the hate some of you jerk offs have for Haye. I'm not a big fan of his trash talking but the man is exciting and he's breathing some life back in the most boring, stagnant division in boxing.
Haye will settle into his weight quite well, he may not be naturally as big as ali but he hits 10x as hard
Haye acts somewhat like Herbie Hide, former WBO heavyweight champion whom Vitali knocked out in the second round, London, England.
I don't see why a vulnerable chin has to be a problem in the sport. A good boxer will always find a way around it. Lewis and Vlad are examples of elite Heavyweights which dodgy whiskers.
This exact thread was done not too long ago... Anyway, Haye is 6'3" and came into his last fight with Barret at 215 lbs. So I guess he is about as big as those guys were in their prime, though he doesn't seem to be able take as good a punch as Ali and Holmes.
if your good enough, your big enough..end of.....tyson, holyfield, marciano, dempsey..hw division is full of smaller guys who overcame their size 'disadvantage'...
Historically, he seems to be in about the right range, but the modern HW's are humongous men. Tyson wasn't as tall and if I recall correctly in his hey days he was usually around 220?
