If Whyte wins in convincing fashion, how big an upset would this be historically? Would it be bigger than Tyson vs Buster?

Fairly big, but not nearly Tyson Vs Douglas.

Not even as big as some more recent upsets IMO, like Loma vs Teo.

Whyte is decent, and Fury looked far from unbeatable last time out, which is also the case in almost all of his post comeback fights. He's also only fought one opponent decent opponent since his comeback, and a very one dimensional one at that.

I'd be surprised but not shocked if Whyte won. I was shocked when Ruiz beat Joshua by TKO.

Fury's next best opponent (post comeback) went life and death with Sokolowski. Okay Soko is a very good journeyman, but he is a journeyman. Wallin looked far from a top heavyweight against him.

And its not like Fury even looked great against him. The rest of Fury's post comeback opponents have been absymal.

I think if Whyte pulls the upset there'll be a lot of "obvious in hindsight" going around.

More on the level of Lewis vs Rahman 1 rather than Tyson vs Douglas.

Fury at his best should not lose to a guy like Whyte but Fury was fat in the last fight and after dominating Wilder in the second fight was in plenty of danger in the third fight

If Fury shows up fat there is a good chance Whyte could score something. I don't think too highly of Whyte's ability to take a punch and box with an elite guy. Big upset maybe closer to Lewis vs Rahman

It would make Fury's record in title fights: 2-1-1

Depends on how he wins. If he gets a lucky left hook then not so much because everyone knows he's dangerous. If he wins on points (LOL) then massive upset.

It would be pretty damn huge, given Whyte hasn't beaten anyone in convincing fashion over the course of a whole fight ... (other than a 40-year-old Povetkin after he'd been hospitalized twice with Covid) ... in a very long time.

And given the location, in front of all those fans in Wembley.

So, if he totally and convincingly beat up Tyson Fury and stopped him, like Buster did to Mike Tyson, that would be an absolute shocker.

Because I don't see anyone saying Whyte outboxes, dominates and stops Fury. Most are just saying he could land a big punch.

    But everyone loves an upset.

    This sounds familiar:
"Because I don't see anyone saying [insert name] outboxes, dominates and stops Fury. Most are just saying he could land a big punch."

It would of course be an upset. Saying that, I think most of us are picking Fury, but Whyte has proved his will to win time and time again, and as sloppy as he looks at times, he does have the power to win this. I don't see Fury rag dolling him around the ring and out muscling Whyte similar to how he approached Wilder 2 and 3. He should comfortably outbox him though.

I expect Fury to get a UD on the cards. But as others are saying, if Whyte stops Fury it would only be a shock for those who think Whyte is a bum

Wallins a solid southpaw HW tho.. but inactivity doesn't help a fighter, & he's only had one fight a year since 2019.. the pandemic has wreaked havoc with a fighters momentum..
& almost every fighter ever has had hard nights work against what was considered lesser opposition.. Fury is no different.. plus there was a lot of flux going on with Fury at that time and extenuating circumstances, but what matters is he got the job done.. adjusted & boxed Wallins head off with a bad cut.. Wilder, Whyte (if he wins) & the swede is a decent run for Fury post comeback , especially in the context of the global **** show (pandemic).. The Swede is good enough to beat some decent heavyweights yet and may just do so , age is on his side .. hard to fully judge him right now

You have to be out of 1st gear to go life and death. Wallin-Soko was a glorified sparring session.

But Fury's recent form has not been amazing, in 2/3 of his last fights he was not 100% and had to grind out the wins. I'd still expect Fury to beat Whyte with those performances but it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Wilder 2 was an ATG performance but it's one of the last three. The performance against the German guy was good, Fury looked very sharp but it's hard to judge against a mediocre opponent who isn't coming with any belief or determination.

It would be a big upset but two things prevent this from being as big as it might otherwise be. First, they are heavyweights. Whyte hits hard and Fury can be hit. Second, Fury is not always in optimal shape when fight time arrives.
