It depends on age mostly.
The younger you are the more you can get away with it.

But the way dudes are “taking advantage” & milking it now it’s even affecting the younger guys.

 

Crawford is as big as Marvin Hagler. Spence is bigger, probably walks around at SMW. Both are bigger than Duran and SRL. It’s a losing battle, boxing isn’t going to change the rules for max hydration. Only guys like Canelo can enforce these rules routinely on his bigger opponents these days. Floyd tried to do the same with Winky and Winky said no thanks. Boxing has bigger problems but I’m not a fan of excessive weight manipulation.

 

Exactly...fighters gonna do whatever it takes to win. If sport allows them to come in 30lb overweight on fight night then everyone can do this.

The best thing would be to institute same day weigh ins and check hydration levels instead.
If a fighter is dehydrated beyond allowed limit then they are not allowed to fight.

 

i agree but promoters are concerned with making money not with the safety of fighters. If a fighter gets killed or permanently injured, the promoter still gets paid. If a fight is cancelled because a fighter misses weight or rehydrates too much, fight is cancelled usually and no one gets paid. The money is more important than anything even the lives of the warriors who make this sport possible. That’s the harsh reality.
