you read my exact feelings, trup G is far far far far greater than Tyson could ever be. Tyson had elite level skills but his weak mentality stunted him as a fighter immensely, what he COULD had been if he wasn't so weak

An early K.O. would be bat**** insane. A close decision would be a surprise, but not unbelievably crazy.

GGG is a 25 to 1 favorite and a dominant, rising star. Murray is far from a bum but it would be a massive upset within the boxing world. I think it would be somewhere in between Algieri/Provodnikov and Tyson/Holyfield.

was that really an upset to you back then ? i'm not talking about the bookies odds, when I talk upsets, i'm talking about my personal upset..

Tyson v Holy was not at all an "upset" to me. Tyson was probably favored but ONLY due to his aura he had prior to prison. many people have a problem accepting reality even when it smacks them in the face on more than one occasion..

****, Tyson was pushed into the holy 1 fight, he admitted prior to signing the fight he was NOT prepared for holy. how many real rounds did Tyson have from getting out of the pen after 3.5 years. he fought a couple complete stiffs then people expected him to compete with a holy that was "healed"

there was nothing ever wrong with holy except he needed a break and had to get his Asthma under control. holy had a hell of a few years he needed to recover from, still better than getting fat as hell like Tyson did, he was like 300 lbs for god sakes. first couple joke camps were to get into shape (as in weight)

the douglas fight was a huge upset, but only back then. hindsight always being 20/20 that wasn't that big of an upset. Tyson was a bully, classic case. he folded as soon as anyone world class and a true HW pushed back.

trip G losing to anyone right now would be a HUGE upset in my book, and I mean friggin huge. even ward getting a W would be shocking to me. all about styles and specific skillsets. the only fighter I give a shot would be andre direll IF he could keep from getting ko'd. tall order and very highly unlikely.

I would lay a good bet down on Andre dirrell to get the W vs ward right now for sure. maybe even after they have a couple more fights. long as dirrell keeps improving, its game

no, curry was lb for lb #1 at the time. big upset, though, unless you're 1 of the remaining number of a diminishing band of supremacists in denial. what with golovkin's leaky defence, plodding, inability to fight off the back foot, 1-dimensional slugging, etc.

trip G has leaky defense ? compared to what Floyd and rigo ?
inability to fight off the back foot ? how do you come to this conclusion ?
plodding ? wow, the dude is the BEST in the game at cutting off the ring, immaculate footwork.
1-demensional ? like excellent at setting up his power shot, unbelievably balanced, ALWAYS in position to land with accurate and full force. man, if he is "1-demensional, he has by far the best dimension seen, ever for me.

I guess we all see what we want to see. trip G is the BEST MW I have ever seen

ohh ya, since p4p #1 means so much to you, I have Trip G @#1 going ion 2 years. almost 2 years. just because I recognize how great he is a little earlier than most doesn't change the fact within 18 months he will be widely considered the best in the sport

I suppose its possible, if GGG caught a stomach bug, and didn't pay attention in the fight and walked straight into Murray's best shot ... naahhh ...

OK, seriously though, I think GGG was sick before the Ouma fight, and it showed. It's a possibility.

If people really follow boxing then they know that Murray is a live underdog. He arguably beat the 1 and 2 (Sturm and Martinez). So far this fight has got barely any promotion and it's not even in the best boxing fan base location. Even here on ESB there are barely any threads or stories about the fight. It would really only seem to be an upset here on the ESB boards to be perfectly honest.

He beat Maravilla on my card too, but we all know the man was almost completely gone by then. He did very well against Sturm too until the man opened up and beat him silly in the 12th. The fight ended up close on the cards, but besides a very biased Jim Watt having it for Murray by a single point nobody watching in the RbR had it closer as a draw, or scored it for Sturm. Even some that were openly rooting for Murray.

Macklin got robbed against Sturm. Murray should be happy that he got away with a draw in that bout.

Golovkin is still to really prove himself as an elite fighter mainly due to him scaring the **** out of anyone with anything to lose. The myth around the man is startling. I can't remember the last time there was a fighter that was so widely avoided and so hyped, HBO have done a good job in creating this monster called Golovkin.

But if Murray does slay the monster it would be a big upset, not huge but a clearly unexpected result against big odds. Golovkin has such a following that even the most ardent of his doubters still believe he is the best at 160lbs but mainly due to the weakness of middleweight more than due to Golovkins ability. But he hasn't achieved ATG status or even P4P status for a loss to be an upset of historical proportions.

    Very big.

There was an interesting post demonstrating how Murray could be considered the lineal middleweight champion.

After that fight, there would be no doubts he'd be the best one.
