How big of an upset - Murray beats Golovkin?

Golovkin's not your average unknown quantity because he's beaten capable fighters but not the best - even though most think he can.

Lol, this is why I don't think it would be big. If anything it's a test for the less proven Golovkin against a more or less proven opponent. Murray beating Golovkin is at best upset of the year, but not that big of a deal in any historical context.

Golovkin isn't an ATG, he isn't in the top 10 p4p ratings, he isn't even the top rated middleweight (even though he should be). Murray is a top 10 middle and probably right behind Golovkin. It's a nearly even match based on their fight history and rankings. Probably the real 1 and 2 of the division right now.

Haha, is that really your issue with my post? I never said the US is the center of the boxing universe, but Golovkin did come to the US and HBO network for exposure and money. He was relatively obscure before that. I'm also pretty sure Golovkin would do better ratings in England or Germany where most big European fights have been taking place. Monaco is relatively obscure even for a European show down.

I want the fight to do well, but this fight isn't getting the promotion or the chatter it deserves. There are only 3 threads on Golovkin on the main forum and only 1 about the Murray fight. There are zero stories about the fight on ESB, there are zero about it on the scene. HBO barely came out with a promo for the fight about a week ago.

Someone compared this fight to Tyson vs Douglas? Tyson was ranked #1 p4p by ring magazine at the time and held 3 titles. Golovkin has 1 title and isn't even ranked 1 in his weight class or even in the top 10 p4p. I'm not saying it's right, but those are the facts.

Miguel Cotto is ranked above Golovkin at MW by the RING magazine. Quillin is Cuban, he doesn't have any more fans in the US than Murray.

You want to stand by your man, that's fine. Golovkin probably is the best MW, which I agree with, but it's more so based on speculation rather than results. He is still behind MC at the moment and an upset would not propel Murray to number 1, which is what the thread was really about. At best Murray winning would be upset of the year.
