How Big Was Carmine Vingo?

If you go to the hall of fame and look at the display of mouthpieces they have Tysons is twice as big as anyone else in there, HW or non HW.

 

:good so did chris eubank! he was a block of a man in a suit. a lot of fighters are way out of proportion. I hear jake lamotta was just as weird. under 5'8'', a heavyweight head and little girls hands..

 

haha, the bolts on his neck are there too I think...

 

This is going to sound strange but if you look at fighters who have massive heads like Tyson and LaMotta those guys are usually pretty difficult to KO. Ive always wondered about that. In fact when Tyson was a kid in Brooklyn before he ever got close to boxing his nickname was "Big Head Mike".

 

Like Chuvalo and Holyfield ..

 

Yeah, that's how hard Marciano hit. His punches could kill you decades after a fight and then bring you back to life, almost certainly to kill you again.

 

I read an article about him a couple years ago, that he was living in
Florida and since I have not heard or read anything about Vingo since
then,I assume he is still alive..He would be 81 years old now....I hope I
am correct....

Big John Tate had one of the biggest heads I have seen in boxing

 

True they made Heavyweight train like the other weights and if they came in 5-10 lbs over there goal it was suggested that they eased off in training. Joe Louis during exhibitions came in at 235 and he looked good but when he got back in the ring he trained down to be svelte. He actually KO'd a few well known Heavyweights at his untrained weight. I know he KO'd Nino Valdes in 1 but not sure of Joe's weight for that EXB

 

My uncles loved Vingo and he was well known early in the N.Y. area as a future star. I heard Vingo was a Big puncher but was still green coming up. My uncles all thought he was going to beat Marciano but Vingo liked to brawl. He was very big for the time. Shame to say my Uncles later rooted for local favorite Roland Lastarza but became Big Marciano fans after fight one. My uncle said the KD and the harder punches were clearly Marciano, Roland was more experienced and tough but even though Roland was a local guy, they felt Rocky clearly won.
