i know it happened nearly 40 years ago, but anyone got much info on how big a fight and how big the hype was b4 the fight i seen a few documentaries saying it was biggest fight ever and like biggest sporting event eva next to olympics also heard of guys passing out before the fight and tension in new york being crazy what u guys know?
If that fight was happening today it would probably do 2-3 times what Pac-Mayweather is expected to generate.
I can't find all the parts but here's a documentary on the subject. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTKqaiP3EJI[/ame]
Nothing has ever compared to it. If Pacquaio and Floyd EVER ****ING HAPPENS then this is the only fight that would still reign supreme. The political backdrop, Ali's lay off, the conflicting personalities and the fact that both were undefeated Heavyweight Kings make it untouchable. Add in the fact that it was one of the best fights of all time.
The hype for the fight was huge.A loud mouth, who was a boxer and a rarely hit defensive guru, who people hated and falsely dethroned as the champ, and the greatest, versus a humble, non stop brawler, who liked to sing after fights even though he could not sing, and had trouble with the english language. What could be bigger.
My fact for the day! 26 million people watched the fight in Britain. 39 years later its still listed in the top 10 of bbc viewing figures of all times. That's about half the population of britain.
It's absolutely amazing considering we had no SKY, Cable, no internet etc.....yet such huge numbers stood still to watch. I wish I could have been around back then. Everyone into boxing? ****ing heaven.
well according to john garfield louis vs schmeling had the world on its feet, it was the most anticipated fight ever.
