I would like for UK and German posters to tell me how big of a fight would this be in their respective countries. Would it top the news/media coverage every night leading up to the fight? Do you think the general public would be abuzz over this? It's gotta be the biggest European fight out there, IMO.
It would be big in Europe. It wouldn't receive much coverage in the States. In the US, the Klitschko are known by causal fans, but they are often mixed up. Having never appeared on HBO, David Haye is virtually unknown. It would be a big fight, but not big enough to warrant a pay per view in North America.
It would be huge in the UK, the Brits love getting behind their sportsman. Same in other parts of Europe and of course Ukraine and pretty big in America too. Probably the biggest fight at heavy out there to be honest.
It wouldn't be very big cause nobody wants to watch the Klitschkos jab and grab for a few rounds before getting knocked out with the first clean Hayemaker.
The UK is tiny. Their population is around 62 million. And even if every man, woman and child watched Haye fight a Klitschko, that would still be 20 million less than watched the Beatles first appearance on Ed Sullivan...In 1964.
It'd do huge numbers, that's for sure.. Klit fights are like 600-800k PPV buys against boring opponents, aren't they?
In point of fact, it wouldn't be that big because Haye has alienated his non-UK fans. Nuthuggers like you are always going to support him no matter what he does...and that fine. But when Haye first burst on the scene with his promises to bury both Klitschkos nearly two years ago, it piqued the interest of casual, non-UK fans. Those fans are no fed up with Haye, which is why many of the them are now supporting the less talented Adamek.
Haye sold 800,000 ppv's in the UK vs Valuev so a fight with either brother would draw easily over 1m as long as it was on at a reasonable hour.
Seems that people can't read the question. In the UK this would get constant coverage in the papers leading up to the fight. Sky Sports would also have regular programs leading up to the event and Sky Sports News would give updates on the fight too. It may beat the interest in Hatton Mayweather, which was huge, due to the fight being on European time. If Haye wins, he would probably be Sports Personality Of the Year which is a big thing in the UK as it honours the greatest sportsman of the year. TBH Honest if Haye won i think he would be the most recognisable sportsman outside of football.
Seems like you can't read other posters posts. The UK is tiny. You've got a population of 62 million. That's a fifth the size of the US. Even if the fight is huge in the UK, it won't do that much without American pay per view, which it won't get because none of the fighters, to my knowledge, have ever warranted a pay per view fight. Hell, Haye's never even been on HBO.
Cocksucker, I quote the original poster: "I would like for UK and German posters to tell me how big of a fight would this be in their respective countries. Would it top the news/media coverage every night leading up to the fight? Do you think the general public would be abuzz over this? It's gotta be the biggest European fight out there, IMO." Sorry to hurt your feelings darling
Asshead, I read the question, and it was stupid. Who the hell cares how big a fight is in only Europe? It's called the world championship, dummy. What matters is how big the fight is worldwide. And this fight won't be big without HBO or American payperview, genius.
