Today we've had Ricky Hatton, Barry McGuigan and Nigel Benn all confidently state that Joe Calzaghe is the best British boxer of all time or at least post war. Many on here disagree with them but with respect these 3 know a LOT more about the top tier of world boxing than posters on this forum so why do some people get blasted for suggesting that Calzaghe is greater than Lewis? People slate Calzaghe's resume but Lewis was around in a VERY weak era and his best win is against an ageing and former cruiser in Holyfield and the rest mainly consists of beating on bums like Golota and Botha. People have a go at Joe for beating on Jones but there's no difference with Lewis beating a totally shot Mike Tyson. Calzaghe > Lewis IMO.
Your lost all credibility when you said "Lewis was around in a VERY weak era" doubly so when you're comparing him with Calzaghe's super middleweight reign.
lmfaoooo Lewis was in a weak era? If holyfield-Tyson-Bowe-Moorer-Lewis is considered a weak era then WHAT the HELL DO YOU CALL TODAY'S HEAVYWEIGHT ERA?atsch:rofl Joe Calzaghe's RESUME IS NOT EVEN close to Lennox Lewis:rofl Lewis beat Tyson-holyfield-Golota-Briggs-michael grant- David Tua-Tommy Morrison-Razor Ruddock-Frank Bruno calzaghe beat Kessler-Lacy-manfredo 43 yrs old hopkins and 39 yrs old jones :rofl Not even close son atsch
Your opinon means jack **** when you clearly dont know what the hell you're talking about!:-( The bolded portion>>> What a load of bull****! Did you just start watching boxing? How can you say Lewis fought in a weak era!atsch
Because we don't need other people to tell us what to think? Its obvious to me that Lennox Lewis has a superior resume and legacy to Calzaghe. H2H talent is closer, but Lewis still edges it.
Are you serious? Lewis in a weak era? Arguably one of the best era's in HW boxing. Also, Golota is no bum. :nono Nor is Botha for that matter. :-(
A man can only fight the opponents that are available. Lewis never faced Bowe, and we all know why. Calzaghe tried to get the big fights sooner but like Bowe they just wouldn't get in the ring with him.
His opinion means about the same as yours, however the boxers mentioned have far greater credibility than either of you or me.
You do realise they're only saying that because Calzaghe is fresh in the mind, they're being asked about him and getting caught in the hype of his retirement? It's a nice, media friendly soundbite. Doubt they really think it. Nigel Benn said 'I doubt there'll be another like him'.....as if Calzaghe's had a career which is hard to replicate, which we all know isn't true.
