So Spadafora, if he steps in there with Maidana at some point in the future, and outboxes him to a clear UD, will you finally give him a bit of props?
kahn has been pretty impressive since 1st round debacle a rematch with prescott would be nice and a step up in power by opponets also would be nice. even though not a fan has bounced back nice an promoters have done nice job taking baby steps back so if paulie happens an if it does malanaggi could out box him an would not be a suprise to many but if he gets by they need to tackle bigger fish bradley, maidana, ortiz to get cridicts of his back
Some people will never give him the respect regardless of what he does. I do think the majority of the people would give him credit if he took on a guy like Maidana or Urango, somebody who plays right into his weaknesses. If he were to beat a heavy puncher cleanly, he'd be in good shape.
He already has impressed me to a certain extent by showing the character he has to rebound from the Prescott defeat. It's easy to forget how much of a joke he was considered after that, he was a complete laughing stock. He's faced opponents suited to him but that doesn't take away from how positive he's remained and the confidence he's retained and the way he's improved himself. To take it to that next level he needs to beat opponents on a higher level, simple as that. Malignaggi is an okay start in America but I see him as somebody suited to Khan. Nevertheless, he did beat Diaz well so its a good victory if he can get it. But eventually he's got to face the Marquez's, Bradleys, Alexanders of this world.
You make some interesting points. I think eventually every fighter gets hit with big shots. Especially at 140/147 pounds, the welterweight divisions will always be dangerous waters and rich with talent. With that said, I'd say I'd be impressed with Khan if he shows us he's able to recover from a big shot. Great champions can go down, sometimes often even(I'm reminded of Trinidad) but Trinidad and the other greats overcame serious adversity. I think if he beats Malignaggi he deserves some respect. But, I doubt people are going to start betting their kitchen sinks on him until he proves that if does take one on the chin, he can still pull out the win. Personally, I'd like to see him fight Prescott instead of Malignaggi. If he really does want to be considered a great champion someday I think that's a test he should re-take. Sooner the better.
Good post!! Boxing is all about hitting the other guy whilst not getting hit yourself! We already know that Amir possess a paper beard, and is not a huge puncher, so if he ever decided to "Slug it out" with the big hitters out there, all it would prove is that he is stupid!! Amir is a hugely talented fighter, with one glaringly obvious weakness! And that weakness is why (imo) he will never be lauded by boxing fans as the superstar that many (Himself included) believe he is. But, I will give him due respect if he defeats Paulie. Paulie is no joke (Hair extensions aside) and it has the makings of a good fight.
I already have a lot of respect for Amir Khan. At 17 years old, winning an Olympic medal is a great achievment in any sport. Never mind the most physically difficult one. Whilst being trained and rated highly by Freddie Roach, easily the best trainer in the world IMO, he is also holding his own in sparring against P4P#1 Manny Pacquiao. He is a world champion in one of the most talented divisions at just 23 years of age and is still well off his prime. Though since losing to Prescott, he has decided to fight light hitters. Like Maliganggi with just 5 KO's in his career. Although, even if he goes on to fight Bradley, he only has 11 KO's in 25 fights, so fighting big punchers isn't necesserily the way forward.
