    Agreed.

Roy has the edge on athleticism, best victories, historically unique feats. Floyd has the edge in fundamentals skills, ring IQ, and perhaps longevity.

Neither reached their full potential in spite of having incredible boxing talents. They both suffered from the same disease nocojoneitus neither had the balls of an ATG. Both were scared to take any risks & ducked fighters they should have fought. Their resumes and legacies suffered therefore leaving them as just very talented wannabes

They are both incredible fighters who we were privileged to have witnessed 1st hand.

I personally rate them as the tops of there respected eras, Jones from 1990-2000 and Mayweather from 2000-2010

My feeling is that in terms of who the best boxer is I have to go with Roy Jones despite mayweathers tight defensive skills. Greatness however is determined by a combination of factors and Roy in his prime got little recognition from casual fans while FMJ is a household name.

So in that vein you are all right in your own minds :p

Guys like FMJ and James Toney who defensive style is the bane of most still have there own boogie man.

That Boogie man is in the form of the ultra rare offensive dynamo ie; RJJ, SRL, SRR. These are the variations of style to beat Mayweather. Unfortunately the closest thing near FMJ's size was a little midget that apparently just wasn't meant to be.

Oh really? Ask yourself why. According to all you nuthuggers, he couldn't be hit, he was the hardest, fastest punching Light Heavy for years blah, blah, blah.

The reality is he was a one trick pony. Reflexes slowing, got nothing to back it up.

That is why Mayweather is the better fighter. His ring IQ is a hundred fold better than Jones ever was also.

You can harp on about records as long as your ass points downwards, we are talking about in ring ability. Mayweather has it in spades, the other one was merely athletically gifted, with nothing worth **** once that dissipated.

how does roy has the edge on victories? his era was poor

Floyd with longevity will cruise past roy

after saying that, roy's speed, power and athleticism was off the charts

During Roy's peak and before he moved down from Heavy Weight, there was no one in the World that could beat him. On his resume he recorded an impressive shutout win against great Toney and also comfortably beat legend Bhop at the start of his career. He not only used to beat top level world class boxers, but he did it at near shutouts and style.

Mayweather is the better boxing technician, but at their respective peaks, RJJ was just too good.

Floyd is on a level of his own in terms of technical proficiency. But RJJ was a boxing genius if such a thing can exist.

Boxing isn't JUST about technique. Take pacman for example...i consider him to be very technically flawed. but he was still able to give one of the finest tecnicians, JMM a tough 4 fight series. So TECHNICAL skills will get you very far, but can be neutralized by other attributes such as speed, quickness, movement, power...just sheer TALENT. And RJJ was the most talented fighter ever.

Floyd's mastery of the fundamentals will allow him to be competitive at the highest levels into his 40's. He's kinda like hopkins in that sense. A guy who understands the finer points of the game better than anyone which allows him to hit and not be hit and frustrate opponents. But prime hopkins was beaten by RJJ in his prime which only proves that highly cultivated genius can overcome superb talent and technical proficiency.

Jones has no Chin, no Plan B in a fight and benefited from fighting in an awful Light Heavyweight Division and also avoided way too many fights.

Floyd has an Iron Chin, probably the highest skill level and Ring IQ in the sport and is undefeated and hasn't been brutally and embarrassingly KOed on 3 Continents like Jones has.

Jones career was smoke and mirrors. He is also broke while Floyd is making 41.5 mil + PPV upside for his next fight.

Let me know when Floyd jumps up two weight classes, and then drops back down within a 9 month period after having had 50 fights.

    Floyd hasn't retired yet.

Nobody knows what the future holds.

If someone had told you in 2003, that Roy would get knocked out by Glen Johnson and Danny Green, then you'd have had them certified.

Floyd has a huge ego, and craves money.

It's more than likely that he'll continue to fight into his 40's, past his best.

You say Roy fought in an awful LHW division.

    Really?

Well the MW division where Hopkins ruled wasn't that great was it?

How about the SMW division that Joe ruled? That wasn't any stronger than LHW.

    Neither was the CW division.

What was he supposed to do?

He got put down by Del Valle years before we knew he had Chin issues and he was on his way to getting KOed in the first Griffin fight. We have been over this time and time again. There was evidence of his Glass Jaw because he avoided punchers in every damn weight class he fought in. Then there is his Daddy saying way back in the mid 1990's his son wasn't going to fight certain fighters because they "punched too hard" :rofl:patsch Better yet was Big Roy telling sparring partners they were not allowed to punch his son in the face

Your opinions on this matter are irrelevant.
