How can anyone rate Mayweather's win over Marquez?

Now and then on here you see some chump make a comment like: "Marquez gave Pac hell twice, then Floyd whipped Marquez!"

    Really, this is beyond idiotic.

Marquez was 133 1/2lbs the other night, for a lightweight fight with a 135 limit - and he fought Floyd at a 144 catchweight, with JMM coming in at 142 and Floyd making no effort to make the agreed limit and strolling in at 146.

Aside from the very obvious hypocrisy issues of those who criticize Pacquiao for making Cotto weigh one pound less than he weighed for his previous fight, I can't understand the view that Floyd's win over Marquez was anything other than a pointless mismatch - a win that was rendered meaningless before the bell even rang due to making Marquez jump 2 divisions and then coming in over the limit.

Marquez was a natural at 126, fought equally well at 130, but by 135 it was evident that the excess weight was compromising his effectiveness. Marquez is a vastly superior fighter to Juan Diaz in every way, but Diaz's advantages in size and physicality gave JMM real problems early on in their 1st fight. At 126lbs, Marquez crushes a Diaz-calibre fighter.

For Marquez to then pile on weight to try and get close to a 144 catchweight was suicide, especially to fight a guy who has been performing effectively at 147 for the past few years, and has advantages in reach and height.

What was the weight advantage in the ring? I read it was 8lbs, but if that's true then it only tells half the story, because although Marquez was operating at a weight above 140lbs, he did not look good there. He looked thick around the middle, clearly overweight, and this obviously compromised his effectiveness as a boxer. At their best weights, I think Mayweather would beat Marquez anyway, but that is completely irrelevant to the task of evaluating the quality of the win in the fight which actually did occur in reality.

In Marquez's next fight, he came in light at 133 1/2lbs, almost 10lbs less than vs Floyd, and again I felt like Diaz looked like the naturally bigger man in the ring.

Can you imagine what people (especially those who get all hot and bothered about Cotto weighing one pound less vs Pac than he did vs Clottey) would be saying if Pacquiao just now fought Humberto Soto at a 144 catchweight?

Or if Chad Dawson fought Sergio Martinez at a 169lbs catchweight?

Or if Nonito Donaire took on Ivan Calderon at a 113lbs limit?

Any top welter would have crushed that fat little Marquez impostor. A guy like Andre Berto, who is nowhere near as skilled as JMM, would have brutalized him.

What do you think? Vote and comment :bbb

the fight should not have happened in the first place. marquez even though dominating 135 was already struggling with the guys over there when he fought casa and juan diaz. now imagine him going up two weight divisions for a catchweight fight and then being paid a certain amount so that his opponent can fight heavier still. marquez was already maxed-out at 135.

Marquez saw the cash and went for it.
On the night he fought a 160lb mayweather who held all the cards....
Too old too pasty too slow..

i agree with what u said. marquez is too much of a warrior for his own good in this sport and so desperately wanted a rematch with pac such that he was willing to go through floyd to get it, which in some sick way i like him for. and floyd was just being a great business man as usual.

strictly speaking boxing though, it adds nothing to mayweathers resume. i think thats shown when even the *****s wont cite it as a good win, considering these same *****s still believe floyd isnt ducking pacman. that speaks volumes i think

    Good win.

I also rate the Mayorga/Trinidad fight as a good win for Trinidad as I'm sure many do as well. 2 years off fighting someone moving up two weight divisions who is also aggressive and dangerous isn't a bad fight. I don't see anyone considering this fight a crime so why is the Mayweather/Marquez fight a crime against humanity all of a sudden?, this isn't the first time this happened.

result was what everybody predicted. If May fought 5-6 times a year minimum I wouldn't mind matches like that...but...

i wouldn't call it a rigged mismatch.. well actually it kind of was consiering floyd purposely avoided the catchweight.

but the win had little value overall. Nobody was giving marquez a chance anyway. The deck was completely stacked against him.

i voted "not much value in the win" but ofcourse still some and theres 3 reasons why

    1. marquez is an exceptional fighter , but clearly not great up there
    2. it was a absolute domination every second of every round
    3. and this is the biggest one this was after a two year lay off

I can't think of any other fight where a fighter was so completely outmatched.

That fight was nothing more than a pay day for JMM. What Floyd did to JMM was absolutely disrespectful. JMM is a great champ that deserves better than that.

Floyd fought at his natural weight against a fighter that shouldn't even be fighting at 135. The only impressive thing was that Floyd was able to get people to believe that was a great win and he was coming off a 2 year layoff.

It was scandolous. A ruse set up by GBP for these type of bull**** fights, using p4p rankings as a sort of title fight knowing full well p4p rankings are there to judge fighters who would never fight because of weight restrictions. So many people still buy this bull****, claiming #1 fought #2 or #3 as if this has as much validity as going through the ranked in your own division. It's a ruse to sell more fights for the GBP fighters and to cash out on the fighters already at the top.

That's because this thread doesn't even warrant a response. It's just another subtle attempt at trying to discredit a great victory on the immaculate resume of the #1 P4P fighter.
