I thought Jones was going to beat Green easily but that didn't happen. I won't count Green out just yet guys.

Well for one ; Hopkins is getting up there in age. Who knows what will happen. I not saying Hopkins will lose( not saying he is going to win) but he is facing a strong guy in Greeen.

Jones is/was shot though. Hopkins isn't. Yes he may be 44 years old, but he's still got something left in the tank. His stage is age-less, Jones relied on pure reflexes and speed and at 40, he just doesn't have it anymore and his punch resistance is gone.

Hopkins has all the advantages here. He's quicker than Danny Green and he's the better ring technician by miles. Green is hittable, relatively slow at times and while he tries to jab often, I think Hopkins will have no trouble taking away the jab like he did against Pavlik.

He's not particularly good at cutting the ring off either Green, if Jones had the same foot speed of old he'd of boxed rings around Green with his lateral movement. But he didn't. Hopkins isn't a good mover even at his age, but he's a clever mover. He'll find space and keep the fight where he wants it.

I'm not even that convinced by Green's power. I think he can punch obviously, but the Jones KO has been blown out of proportion. He caught Jones behind the ear almost with a very good punch, but Jones even with his poor punch resistance nowadays got up and carried on and was stopped only on his feet. I mean look at some of the shot's Green hit Dominguez with mid-way through round 5.

Hopkins is nowhere near as hittable as either of those two, and he's never had trouble when he has been hit since Mercado in what, '94 was it? I'm ruling Green out right here & right now because he's never fought nor shown the qualities to be able to beat a textbook ring-technician like Hopkins, with an excellent defence and amazing adaptability, while Hopkins has fought plenty of fighters similar to Green, come-forward style brawlers who will look to set up the big punches. Pavlik for one, and we saw what happened there.

    And 17 years wiser. :smoke

  7. Surely he's got to have lost some punch resistance?.. I didn't see his last fight.. but before that when was the last time hopkins took a decent shot? Pavlik landed nothing on him...I know he's crafty and not easy to hit.. but if he keeps fighting one day someones gonna land on him.

    to answer the thread...

simply because this is boxing..."the theater of the unexpected"

Green, although nowhere near the technician B-hop is, is not a bad fighter and has been underrated and avoided throughout most of his career.

He is a live dog in this one...I don't believe that this fight will happen though.

When was the lastt time he needed to take a decent shot, that's more to the point. Who says that Danny Green is going to be landing? As for the last time he took a decent shot, if I'm right in saying, Ornelas landed a corking right hand in round 9 and Hopkins took it without so much as blinking. The knockout isn't happening, trust me.

At home, against a 44 year old version of Hops who is bordering on semi-retired...this is his best chance to beat a fighter like Hopkins. As slim as it is.

Hopkins has very little in the tank and has admitted in recent interviews that it is becoming increasingly harder for him to get motivated for a fight. Look at his work-rate, it's terrible, I've noticed his reflexes have gone down too.

The only thing that's motivating Hopkins right now is money.

It took him 12 rounds to figure out Enrique Ornelas, you know his last fight? Hopkins since 2005 has become more increasingly sloppy in the way he boxes, his work-rate has gone lower, and his offense doesn't look as sharp. If you think Hopkins hasn't declined that much over the years, than your either an idiotic boxing fan or a Hopkins nutthugger.

Hopkins is a freaking joke right now, he won't fight someone Jean Pascal, Tavoris Cloud, Lucian Bute, or Chad Dawson because he would lose to all 4 of them. And boxing fans have the nerve to call him the #1 LHW? Ridiculous.

Does anyone want to see this fight other than delusional Australians and diehard Green fans?

    No.

Hopkins is one of my favourite modern fighters, I rate him ahead of Jones Jnr, De La Hoya etc., but my respect for him will plummet if he takes this fight. Green is a nobody, he has everything to lose and absolutely nothing to gain by beating this one dimensional slugger.

If he really wants to bolster his legacy even a RJJ rematch would be a better option! Personally I want to see Hopkins Vs Dawson.

Fighting RJJ would be even worse and it wouldn't add anything to Hopkins legacy AT ALL. Dawson vs Hopkins would be an utter mismatch, but because Dawson has little options right now, this fight could happen.
