Canelo says his body is "not yet ready" for 160 pounds while at the same time he's outgrown 154. So, according to him, he's too small to fight actual middleweights because his "body is not ready" while being too big to fight at junior middleweight because he can hardly make weight. I'm sorry, but this is so ridiculous and the most diva thing I've ever heard. Despite the fact that he rehydrates to 170-175, despite the fact that he is 168 at the 30 weigh-in, despite the fact that he is BIGGER than Gennady Golovkin, we as fans are supposed to say, "Oh, okay Canelo. Totally understood. Feel free to drain middleweights down to your limbo weight because we don't want you to have to move up and fight these 160 fighters at full strength if your body's not ready." Say his body isn't ready. So what? If you don't feel comfortable at 160, so be it. However, you are fighting at middleweight, so don't drain other middleweights down to the minimum limit to get an unfair advantage which he what he has been doing. They should absolutely be able to come in at the middleweight max just as Canelo should feel comfortable coming in at the limit. If Canelo doesn't feel comfortable doing that, THEN LEAVE THE MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION. Go BACK to Junior middleweight and stay there until you're ready to face the MW division without all the stupid stipulations. If you can't make JMW then accept your situation and face the middleweight fighters at whatever weight you feel comfortable but w/o the catch-weights. But Canelo shouldn't be allowed to make his own rules and own weight class because his "body isn't ready". There are so many more hypocritical facets off this reasoning between Canelo AND PARTICULAR FANS as well. 1) Canelo's body isn't ready for 160, but he is fighting for the 160 WBC Lineal MW Title. Like????? https://cdn1.lockerdome.com/uploads...ff5b37472976b0f26cbf0cc466a2e17503a19cf_large If your body isn't ready then don't fight for the 160 lineal title. :huh And for the people who say, "Oh, he doesn't want the title. Just the payday with Cotto." You are completely and utterly incorrect as Canelo's team has said numerous times that Canelo is fighting Cotto because he wants the title. 2) Canelo is a middleweight who has been fighting at middleweight and is ranked #1 MW by the WBC. I've seen some fans completely stand with Canelo to let his body become accustomed to 160 and not face his mandatory immediately as the potential lineal champion while at the same time scream for Golovkin to move up to a division HE'S NEVER FOUGHT AT and face the best fighter there and trash him if he doesn't. I mean, are you serious right now? (no pun intended) It scares me that a fighter with this line of thinking can potentially be the LINEAL MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION and would have never faced a actual middleweight at 160 (as long as he isn't stripped for avoiding GGG). We already have that as it is with Cotto. It's sad!! I don't know what's worse. An actual junior middleweight holding the lineal title and draining MW's, or an actual middleweight holding the lineal title and draining MW's. Where's the respect for the sport of boxing? And for the "boxing" fan that defends this then I ask you, where is your respect for the sport of boxing? Sorry for the rant. Boxing just makes me so mad, man.
Well what do you expect him to say? "I'm scared of GGG, I'll wait until he gets old"? Weight problem is the excuse he comes up with.
At the end of the day he don't have the skills to beat Goodlovin so let him use whatever excuse makes him feel best
Canelo and his team know his body better than any fan does. If he feels he's not ready to make the jump to a full fledged MW, than that's his prerogative. I'd have a bigger issue with the Cotto fight if Alvarez had campaigned at the full 160 before. He hasn't though, and he wants his body to slowly acclimate into the weight class. Sorry that makes you so angry abuffy. And truthfully, I can see why GBP is taking their time with Alvarez since he's their cashcow and he's only in his mid 20's. Canelo and Cotto aren't Middleweights. Cotto is 35, so it's fair to say he'll never fight at the full 160. ALvarez still has time on his side so I'd expect him to make his jump to the full 160 within the next year or 2. Maybe Gennady should redirect his attention towards actual Middleweights and quit wasting time on either of these JMW fighters. Whoever wins that match will probably vacate the WBC belt, and Gennady will have what he's been incessantly craving, another paper belt to add to his collection.
haha bumlovkin will get those worthless belts from another mw can. everybody knew this would happen except golov****s who thought canelo would fight ggg right away. ggg will have to wait for canelos body to be ready for 160 or accept a 155 fight
This is the type of response that makes me irritated with boxing. If Canelo and his team don't feel his body is ready for full-fledged MW then (a) fight where he feel comfortable, just don't force other MW's to drain down in their division (b) don't fight for the LINEAL MW TITLE (c) drop down to JWW Going for the lineal title at MIDDLEWEIGHT when they know their mandatory is GGG doesn't seem like the smart thing to do if their plan is to "slowly acclimate". Canelo is 100% middleweight. He is either in denial or fooling fans in order to gain an unfair advantage in the ring against actual MW's (probably latter). Gennady should stop wasting his time on them? These "junior welterweights" should stop wasting HIS time and the other middleweights' time by taking the lineal title if they have ZERO intention at actually fighting middleweights. How about that?
Well that's not true at all. I don't think there's any fighter in the history of the sport where if they were given the option of either fighting for the UNDISPUTED WW championship and 8 million dollars or a non-title fight for 8 million dollars that they'd pick the non title bout. We're talking about a slow plodding Margarito FFS. His style would be very easy for FLoyd to dissect. The difference in handspeed and footspeed would be way too massive for Antonio to overcome.
Canelo and Cotto are fighting at middleweight. I think Canelo would be the most competitive fight at middleweight for Golovkin, followed by Quillin. Quillin is very dangerous because of his power, but Canelo has better all around boxing skills.
And are the lineal champs holding the WBC title (I add Canelo since I suspect he'll beat Cotto). Smdh.
LOL!!!! Floyd has been on steroids since the Ortiz fight unless you can somehow convince me that it's normal for an athlete of Mayweather's quality to walk around with the testosterone of a 257 year old man. And even a roided up Mayweather got the **** beat outta him by Maidana the first time, who was robbed by the judges. You know DAMN WELL that Margarito was the real player at 147 that everyone wanted to see Mayweather fight, especially after he whupped Cotto. Mayweather CLEARLY DUCKED HIM. He had ample opportunity. Why didn't he fight Margarito after his Baldomir fight? Wow, didn't think of that, did you? LOL. Don't tell me you were that stupid. Everyone would have preferred Margarito over anybody else at the time. That would have been a great fight, and give how Mayweather struggled so much against Maidana, an unroided Mayweather gets stopped.
Ok, let me break this down for you. This all starts and ends with Miguel Cotto. He's the first lineal MW champion that i can remember that actually won the title without ever campagining at the full 160. It's odd and it's definitely uncharted waters, but Maravilla agreeing to that 159 lb stipulation basically openened up the floodgates to allow Cotto to continually defend the belt under the 160 limit. Do I like fighters not campaigning at the full limit? Absolutely not, but Cotto started this trend at MW and Sulaiman has allowed him to continue to do so regardless if it's right or not. In the case of ALvarez, why should he be criticized for taking on Cotto at 155 lbs? Cotto wouldn't fight him anyway at the full 160, so it plays perfectly into Canelo being able to fight him immediately. Anyway, what does it matter? Sanchez, Loeffler and Golovkin have mentioned countless times all they care about is the WBC belt and not the opposition themselves. The winner of Cotto-Canelo will more than likely vacate the belt, so Gennady gets what he wants, another belt. He doesn't really care about the glory because if he did, we all know who he'd be fighting next. I personally don't have a horse in this race, so overall I have an insouciant disposition. But I can see both sides to the argument, it would be nice to see the winner of Cotto-Canelo campaign at the full 160, but no one can force them to. They're cash cows at this juncture in their careers and usually call the shots in their fights.
Damn, shut the **** up. I want to see the fight with both men not drained. What the **** is wrong with you??? Why wouldn't you want to see the best versions of both men. You're not a boxing fan. Just shut the **** up. For real. Get the **** outta here. Right now. Get the **** out.
