Brezeale's only realistic chance is to go for a early KO. He will be battered if it goes past 7 rounds.
If Breazeale can keep Wilder on his back foot then he has the potential to defuse the bomb squad, but as Wilder said about Fury "He has to be perfect for the whole fight, I only have to be perfect for one second". At least Breazeale is not old, have pre existing health issues, overweight or coming in off a layoff etc, so fight will be interesting from that aspect, and maybe the Fury fight might have put a tiny seed of doubt in Wilders mind, we will soon find out.
I agree that he has to circle and stay away from the devastating right. What I would say is that Wilder seems to be frustrated and confused by a decent jab. We saw this in the Washington, Spzilka, and Fury matches. I'm trying to think of others. I think that we would've seen something similar vs Scott if well, that debacle didn't happen the way that it did. Also, good question about Wilder's inside game. How many opponents have really attempted to get inside and use his light weight against him? Breazeale absorbing punishment, good question. He takes a ton of leather right on the chin.
Well Wilder was perfect for 2 seconds had him down twice and still couldn't put Fury away. Wilder's power is immense but he's been taken the distance twice now so it's not always going to bail him out. But Breazeale is so easy to hit, Wilder won't need to be perfect at all to land cleanly, he just needs to be patient, the opportunities will come and I'm sure he's going to land flush repeatedly on Breazeale and eventually get him out of there.
It doesnt matter who beat who quicker. Dw only needs to make certain he comes out with the W, style points aren't important in any way. Dw already has the hate from the general public and receives most of the ttolling within the HW division. Too many huge fights to worry about the eye test. Winning in any way is all that matters. Comparing this fight to breazele and Aj is beyond stupid and only truly ignorant fans and trolls use that format to determine the levels of fighters. Breazele would have learned more kn the Aj loss than most wins combined. That means we'll have a different DB and Dw learned everything needed in the fury fight. Tbey are both far better now than at any point, ever
I agree with this assessment. He is outgunned. But I do agree with the OP in that an effective jab for DB will be the key. He has to keep Wilder off of him and keep Wilder off balance. Let's not forget that DB is Wilder's toughest competition to date. And we've seen Wilder buzzed before, so DB has a shot although a long one. Wilder's antics, being super offended when in fact DB did nothing to offend Wilder. It is a fabrication Wilder has created to motivate himself. Why? Because he knows DB represents his biggest challenge to date and is fearful his dreams of getting the mega-payday with AJ could dissolve. One could argue Ortiz was more of a threat than DB but I don't think so given Ortiz's age.
I feel like for all of the awkwardness of Wilder, his lack of boxing fundamentals, proper foot movement, etc at the end of the day what he's actually very good at is landing the straight right from the correct distance. It's almost the equivalent of Tommy Morrison and his left hook. Wilder seems to respond well from a distance as a flawed counter puncher. I wonder if Wilder could land a devastating right on the back foot.
We will soon find out, the answer might be if Breazeale follows Furys lead, and takes Dempseys quote of "A champion is someone who gets up when he can't." as his mantra. Be interesting to see if Virgil Hill can bring anything extra to Breazeales fight plan, that might make the difference to overcome or minimise Wilders power.
Unorthodox has proved very effective to date, as Goldman the trainer of Marciano said, a trainer should not interfere with a fighter's natural style rather hone it and improve it, gotta keep the old Suzy Q natural.
