How can Donaire, Cotto and Hopkins be above Chad Dawson in the p4p rankings?

    Chad Dawson...

    - Undefeated

    - Won first world title three years ago

    - Holds a dominant UD over Tomasz Adamek (only man to beat him)

    - Wins over Eric Harding and Antonio Tarver(x2)

    - Proved his mettle in 2 fights with the excellent Glen Johnson (who recently KO'd Yusaf Mack to land a title shot)

    - Established himself as the clear number 1 in his division

    - Is going to Canada to fight the quality Jean Pascal next

How exactly can The Ring justify having Cotto, Donaire and Hopkins above him, based on his achievements over the past 3 years? Dawson deserves better. (coming from someone who likes Cotto and Donaire and Hopkins)

We're with you on this, Popkins. Ring ratings don't make any sense.

I'm interested in seeing if anybody can justify Nonito's placing in the top 5.

Donaire's loss doesn't bother me, it was when he was a novice, but Dawson has undeniably beaten better fighters, it's not even close between them on resume IMO, so I don't understand why Donaire is ranked higher, not at all.

The Ring's justification may be the fact that none of Dawson's wins were against top 10 P4P guys, or guys who were on the top 10 P4P list when he defeated them.

Better performances too. He looked bad in a close fight against Rafael Concepcion, who had been stopped in his last loss a little earlier against Arce. I don't think I'd put Donaire over Hasegawa, especially if he beats Montiel.

Donaire doesn't belong there AT ALL. Hopkins is working his way down and out.

Dawson is probably top 10, but due to the state of his weight class, he is relying on the 168'ers to move up to cement his legacy.

So Donaire is higher than him on the basis of 1 win that happened 3 years ago?

I think resume and recent form are more important than subjective interpretation of ability, when it comes to the p4p rankings. Many people may believe that guys like Gamboa and Guzman have top 10 p4p ability, but no sane person would actually place them in the top 10 right now.

If you look at how the Ring Magazine does its P4P ranking, yes. You win convincingly against a top 10 P4P guy, you get into the top 10. Dawson needs to climb into the ranking while Donaire automatically got in based on that win.

Which p4p guy did Celestino Caballero beat to make it in there?

And why isn't Chris John in there then, his win over Marquez wasn't all that long before Donaire-Darchinyan, and Marquez was more highly rated than Vic back then, and John hasn't lost since, and has arguably beaten better fighters than Nonito?

Also, I'm dubious as to whether Darchinyan was actually in the top 10 before Donaire beat him, I thought Vic only made it in after he beat Mijares.

Anyway, my point is, I don't agree with you that is how The Ring rank their fighters.

    This, basically.

Personally, I don't really give a damn about ratings and p4p lists.
