I don't really understand the legality here if boxing itself is legal, how can deaths as a result of punches in the ring be brought into court? It's my understanding that Robinson went to court and spoke to a judge, and Willard was even charged with second degree murder over Young? Why would a case like that even be brought up if boxing is legal? How can it be? What am I missing? Has this happened in other countries too? Was anyone ever convicted for a death inside the ring?

Boxing wasn't really legal when Willard killed Young.
I'm not sure the details of the Robinson case.
Either way, neither of them were convicted or punished as far as I know.

I guess it's the law's job to investigate all homicides, even legal ones.

What about a civil suit like wrongful death? I would assume no...that the boxer killed assumed the risk.

I think it would be assumed that the boxer died at the hands of the "sport" and not a person.

Did the Doctor not charged with manslaughter, fined and a suspended sentence after the Alan Minter vs Angelo Jacopucci fight ?
