Then I guess Foreman is greater than Ali for beating Frazier and Norton far better than Ali ever did. Styles make fights, welcome to boxing.

Why would he move up to a dead division to fight a desperate Kovalev who's biggest win is Cleverly when 168 is packed with solid fighters?

Because becoming a 2 weight champ is impressive and 175 is not dead. Kovalev, Stevenson, Hopkins, Pascal rematch are all good fights.

Because he was old by then and those fights gave him the fame he needed to get his big money fights at 175.

Froch deserves credit but he was luckier that he had a tournament and a bunch of fighters who were not actually that good but were big names in his division. Bute, Taylor, Abraham etc

nothing to do with luck, froch was braver.

Joe wouldn't fight in a S6, he would run in terror to an easier fight.

the way froch can be considered better than joe's resume is that is that if froch had fought joes opponents at smw, he would be unbeaten. Froch would have beaten lacy bum for sure, iced robin reid in easy time as we know anyway and beat Kessler at home but even better than joe did.

But to addto that, froch has done more.

SO yeah frochs resume is definitely better, no argument, except that Froch did not choose to protect his zero losses. If he had sought to protect it, he would be unbeaten just like joe is.

And you know the weirdest thing about that - if froch had chosen to protect his zero like joe did, if he had practised cowardzagheness, then you'd think he is much better than you perceive him now , for being more cowardly! Goodness.

What was controversial about that win?

Throwing and landing significantly more punches and more rounds? Ok.

you think joe cal would be willing to move up and face kovalev if they were contemporaries? HA.He picked 40somethings for a reason.

dream on buddy, joe does the now famous cowardzaghe run from anyone prime and good apart from - 1. Kessler and 2. Kessler.

personally anyone would be questionable to jump up weights to fight that Sergei monster, but its ok for you behind your keyboard to use it to judge Froch, eh? The Cowardzaghe way is strong in you, I see.

If you think about it, nobody is running away from a Froch fight either...The guy seems eminently beatable and it seems like nobody is afraid to fight him.

Calzaghe on the other hand struggled to get fights until the Eurobum titleholders gave it up to young guys with balls (Lacy and Kessler).

I'm just saying you never hear a fighter equivocate and sidestep when asked about a Froch fight. Froch is not a p4p talent, while Calzaghe was top 3 for almost his whole career.

no one is afraid till they get hit.

look, you seem to want to claim that joe had BOTH great oppos AND he struggled to get them. A typical cowardzaghe catch22 argument.

Well look here you cant have it both ways, dash it. He either fought largely wimps or largely warriors. make your mind up, theres a good man.

no he wasn't. he was however, a cowardzaghe for his whole career.

Froch is a true warrior with a great resume but Joe is no slouch. They will both be seen as some of Britain's finest ever fighters. It's just a shame they never had a fight when they had the chance.

Calzaghe was Ring Super Middlewight and Light Heavyweight Champion simultaneously. Going to be hard to top that.

no he ran from major smw title defences like a coward.Zaghe was good though.

and it was a paper title at LHW too. I wonder if they would be referred to as ipad titles in the future?

Why is a win against Groves being so grossly overestimated?

Their styles is what made it such an intriguing fight, we weren't watching two legends slog it out.

Of Froch's 35 fight career, he fought 4 guys who were past or current champions at his weight. One of them was Robin Reid, who hadn't held a SMW championship since 1997 (Froch fought him in 2007 and he lost to Calzaghe in 1999), the others were Kessler (who he lost to and then beat when he was miles past his prime - Calzaghe schooled him in his prime), Ward (who schooled him) and Bute (the only legit current/past SMW champion victory on his CV).
