How can Hopkins win his fight with Calzaghe ? , i cannot see that he has any advantages going into this fight , Joe beats him in every department. Ok im a little biased been from the UK , but the general US opinion is that this will be a close fight. Your thoughts please...

i agree mate, but i am also from the uk!! i just cant see how B-pops can win unless its a flash k.o., i can just see Joe winning by late stoppage, say round 10

I agree with that :good , just thinking am i missing something here ? , is there something about B-pops that im not considering. At the mo , for me theres no way B-hop can win , he'll will do well to make it competitive.

Fair point mate about B-hop fighting dirty , but at 43 years of age , is he going to be able to absorb the punishment from JC to get in and away with those tatics?

Before Winky you could ask the same question. Also before Tarver and before Trinidad. BHop is coming to the ring, making the fight boring but making this his boring fight and grabbin the victory. The question is how Calzaghe can beat Hopkins? Because it is not Hopkins problem to figure Joe, BHop has fought better fighters than Joe. It is Joe who has to do something special which he hasnt done before.

On paper he should never win.

this is a 43 year old who lost his title to jermain taylor at middleweight and now he goes up in weight to fight another brilliant champion who is youngerand looking brilliant.

but saying this hopkins has a nack of getting fighters out of tere game plan and frustrated. difference is calzagh is too good for tha and too disciplined

i see calzaghe fighting a perfect fight and winning

I struggle to B-hop winning rounds though , Joe should be landing punches almost at will and is very adaptable , given Hopkins age , i just dont think Hopkins has a prayer of keeping up with him.

Hope that Hopkins has fresh legs to move for 12 rounds.

Counter Calzaghe with incredible accuracy and catch him coming in time and time again to slow down his output.

Make it a slow and ugly fight.

If he can do those things, he's got a great chance.

Hops can grab and hit, he can slow the pace down and most importantly he can foul himself out of trouble.

Hopkins wins if the fight is slow and methodical...because then he's controlling the fight.

I suppose we could look at the Bika and Reid fights for evidence of this , but Joe seems to have improved since these fights , i struggle to see Bhop winning the fight with a primary tatic of fouling when the going gets tough.

All the advantages seem to be with Calzaghe but Hopkins has been around the gym a loooooong time he knows how to win rounds and thus win fights, Im still picking Joe but I really dont think Joe is going to run right over him

Hopkins can win if Calzaghe loses his balance and puts too much weight on his lead foot. Calzaghe will dive in and Hops spins out of trouble more often than not, Calzaghe slides out of position, gets coutered and stubles all over the place - it is the same situation you could see with Vanderpool, Eastman or Tito... They simply can't get off! I'm not saying it will happen but it can happen. Calzaghe can't potshot like Jones could and Hopkins has solid skills with body shots, fast leading left hooks and withering right hands down the middle... Basically, Calzaghe's efficiency on offense depends a lot on Hopkins' defense. Quick and economical side-stepping, feinting, parrying, slipping, sharp countering. Then, you have to see that this Game is 70% mental - Calzaghe is not as prepared as Hopkins is in facing adversity and hostile atmospheres... The guy has been fighting with legions of fans behind him in the British Islands - he connects, everybody goes wild and he feeds on the crowd, he is knockdown and everybody is silent... If Calzaghe gets hurt here, Oscar, Schaefer and most of the usual suspects will jump on their seats and Joe will get discouraged. It plays a part.

If anyone can make a fight dirty and ugly, it's Hopkins.

I really think that Hopkins is going to counter and just throw to certain spots in hopes of catching Calzaghe coming in instead of trying to actually visually catch Calzaghe because Calzaghe is all over the place and i think after watching the tape, Hopkins will calculate that throwing to certain spots after Calzaghe throws certain punches will yield better results than if he were just visually trying to hit him.

Do you think this is a possibility?

Hopkins already counters with his head down on a lot of his lead right hands so i guess it's pretty obvious he will do this?
