I need help to improve my boxing stance as I am new to boxing It would be appreciated if you critiqued my stance thank you. Link 1, Link 2
Seems your weight leans towards your front foot Your stance is more for a person that uses kicks - true, you can use an L-stance in boxing, but yours isn't one, nor is sideways one. In your case, either rotate your torso a bit inwards or fix it by repositioning your rear foot in order to be like Tyson's Depending on the change you'll do, your fists seems to be more on the side of the cheeks which makes the front of your face too open, even if wearing gloves, so move them a bit towards the mouth That's all I can say from two photos. I hope that helps and is understandable.
Pull your right shoulder back and keep your guard (right hand) closer to your chin. Tuck your chin a bit as well. You're too squared up, which means once you start throwing you'll be off balance.
We start everybody off with this basic stance, they can alter it to suit themselves after they start sparring/fighting and find out what works for them. We have them start with feet about shoulder width apart, (for right handed fighters, for left handed fighters it would be opposite) then stand on a straight line (tile floor, seam in the ring, etc.) and put their front toe (left) on the left side of the line and their right heel on the right side of the line, both feet at the same angle, and knees slightly bent. We have them point their left shoulder toward the opponent, put their left elbow against the body and their left hand in front of their face, they'll be looking over their left glove. We have them put their right hand against the body and their right hand fingers/knuckles to their right jaw line, the glove will give additional coverage. We have them put the left side of their jaw behind the left shoulder with the chin down. It's easier to show somebody than to write instructions, if something I wrote is confusing and you want more clarification let me know.
I will send you an image of me attempting to correct my form tomorrow, I guess my biggest question right now is by how much would your legs be spread from a vertical position I understand that horizontally my legs should be shoulder width apart but what about vertically? How can I know I am off balance
Thank you, Now I have one question about looking for trainers. For a beginner How often should someone train a week? And What are things to look for in a trainer?
Depends on how much you can rest and what you want to achieve. Let's say boxing isn't your goal in life, but you want to be good at however - try four times a week, but not less than three. The thing about the trainer is specific: you need time to start understanding the sport in order to better see how good your he is. It's also important how you two match each other - this is something you'll feel in time, it's personal. What you should consider at the beginning is his passion and how much he's involved with the training (tasks) he gives you, how he reacts to you performing on each one every time. Also, look out if he has favorites, which isn't necessarily bad, but if he tends to care more about them and puts them first, while the rest of the trainees are whatever to him - avoid that kind of trainers, no matter how good they are.
Your body is way too squared up, this will cause you get hit much more often. Try finding a coach, trust me it will make a difference.
I plan to get in touch with a trainer by the beginning of june. anyways here are some photos of my stance now photo 1 (https://www.linkpicture.com/q/trying-to-fix-1.png) and photo 2 (https://www.linkpicture.com/q/trying-to-fix-2.png)
Yes, better start with a trainer, he'll show you a way to start, then, with practice, you'll start to adjust to what suits you, will have better and better understanding of stances, movement, punches and so on. Will also learn from the others in the gym and the sparring partners. On the first photo, at least to me, you still look like you're standing more on your front leg, a bit tilted. You also mix peek-a-boo stance with sideways-one. On the second, your weight is distributed properly, but the stance is still nor one, nor the other.
Boxing is dynamic. There's no one stance to be in at all times. Imo, just pick a stance that's most comfortable for you and then switch up stances that's best for each situation.
