How can Juan Diaz get inside to make his workrate count against Juan Manuel Marquez?

i think diaz takes this one.

 

diaz must not look for the KO..if he looks for it, jmm would just pile up the points and would force diaz to eat some clean punches

 

Taking Diaz on this one. I dont see how much Pac figures into this matchup TBH, he and Diaz have different styles. Diaz is an inside fighter with a heavy workrate while Pac tends to place his attacks from the outside, and that gave JMM the much needed room to operate. I dont really see JMM keeping Diaz off of him succesfully for 12 rounds, Diaz' workrate will be too much. I'm counting on Diaz to absorb a lot of punishment but he has an excellent beard so he'll manage just fine. Diaz wins this clearly and alot of people will be surprised.

I keep thinking to myself that the only way Diaz has a chance is to get in JMM's chest......I dont see how that can happen really unless JMM by choice allows the fight to go there......

JMM might very well decide that Diaz cant hurt him, and allow and draw Diaz in at close quarters, so that he can unleach that uppercut of his.

Seeing that Diaz is not the most powerful of lightweights, I'd favor JMM in this fight if it was fought in a 10'x10' ring.

The uppercut is going to find a home for JMM, but I believe it will be as Diaz tries to bulldoze his way in when he gets caught with it.....

......Diaz I know is tough, but the more I think about the possibilites for Diaz, the more I find myself believing that Diaz will get hurt early, middle, and late in the fight if it goes that long.

Should be a great fight though, because unlike most exellently skilled fighters, JMM comes to fight, and when he throws hands his intentions are to hurt......that should leave a few openings for Diaz, but not nearly enough imo to be within sniffing distance of a win.

 

At least you're depicting a scenario for which you believe Diaz will win......not too many people here picking Diaz have a clue of how he can do it.

 

I think Diaz will win this.

JMM is a class fighter but is on the decline. He wasn't as good against Pacman as he was in their first fight (though he definitly deserved a draw which says a lot about Pacman) and I had him losing against Casamayor until the knock-out.

Diaz will, I think, set a pace too fast for an aging JMM and I can see him winning by a late stoppage or through JMM retiring after around 9 rounds.

 

You probably had JMM losing to MAB also!

 

Campbell showed one way to defeat Juan Diaz and that's to beat him on his own game... come forward, put a lot of pressure, throw hundreds of body punches and lots of inside fighting...

Will JMM do this?? I don't think so and I'm not sure if JMM's accurate counter punching style will overwhelm the Baby Bull...

Even if The Blind Boys of Alabama were the judges for that fight they would have decisioned JMM over MAB!

I know having Casamayor winning over JMM might go against what most people saw but scoring is subjective.

 

what campbell did is the only way to beat diaz. you cant expect a technical fighter like jmm to abandon everything he has done throughout his career and just brawl with diaz. the best thing going for jmm is his counterpunching and ring movement. jmm arguably fights better on the backfoot too so jmm employing a gameplan similar to nate's does not make sense.

that's like asking tyson doing and ali rope-a-dope to beat foreman or something

 

I like JMM but wait for the apologists to say he will have an offnight

Agree pretty much with this except for the result. This is a 50/50 fight for me leaning towards JMM a bit. But yeah, this won't be an easy night for JMM, he's gonna have a lot of countering opportunities but Diaz is tough and will nevertheless come forward and use that vaunted workrate of his to offset JMM often. JMM should not expect to back Diaz up that easily when he lands counters because Diaz would most likely answer back with as much or even more punches of his own.

JMM has the advantage in footwork. Diaz has a slight advantage in handspeed. JMM has his top notch counter-punching skills and a very good lead right. Diaz has his very high workrate and a very good combination of punches to the head and body. Both are tough, both have a huge will to win and both always give their all when fighting.

This will be a GREAT GREAT fight IMO. The only thing that prevents me from picking Diaz here is his lack of power. I think that will be important in the championship rounds. Who's gonna be worn down from the barrage of punches that will most like be thrown by both throughout the fight? That's where I think JMM will just nick it and win a points decision as he has enough power to slow Diaz down in the late rounds, while I don't think Diaz has enough power to do the same to JMM. I see JMM still going strong in the late rounds while Diaz gradually slows down from accumulation of punches, allowing JMM to win the last rounds. Having said that though, I won't be surprised at all if JD wins it. And that's why I'm so excited to see this fight as both have the capability to win this IMO. :good
