How can Juan Diaz get inside to make his workrate count against Juan Manuel Marquez?

What really made me pick Diaz here is JMM's particular style of counterpunching. His style is more suited to allow the opponent to tee off and capitalize on mistakes instead of trying to neutralize the opponent's work rate. That's what Hopkins and Floyd do, take away your offense. JMM doesn't do that. His chance here is if he catches Diaz with big enough bombs to discourage him from coming forward and harassing him.

And Diaz doesn't wear down in the late rounds, infact HE is the one who wears people down. This is the fight where JMM will finally look his age.

No way in hell JMM wins this one going to the cards with Diaz throwing 1000+ punches while he exclusively fights on the back foot.

Yeah Juan Diaz does throw alot of punches, that's one of the things I like about him he just doesnt stop man. But there are still some drawbacks from having a style like that, the main one is he often leaves himself open when he throws that many punches. He often squares up when he does that. That's where I see JMM having countering opportunities to counteract JD's blistering workrate.

Its JMM's counters vs Diaz' workrate. They're truly gonna mesh in this one allowing for alot of exchanges from both men. And both are pretty good at that too.

Oh and JMM doesn't fight exclusively on the backfoot. Not anymore. He has developed his offense well, especially that lead right hand of his. That punch caused Pac alot of trouble in their second fight along with every other fighter JMM fought recently. So Diaz should prepare for that one too.

But yeah, you make some good points and I respect your opinion. I guess we'll just see come fight night, eh? :good

They say the right hand is the perfect punch against a... that's right, a south paw, something Diaz is not. The lead right was especially effective against lefties like Pac and Casa more because they were giving JMM room to throw it, and thats not something Diaz will allow. Forget about him backing Diaz up, thats not going to happen.

This fight is going to go down like the Freitas and Julio Diaz fights, except that JMM will be a tougher nut to break and lives to see the final bell. DIaz clear UD

I agree with you..If JMM can't stop Diaz, I too dont think he can win on points with all the punches daiz will throw and its 80% accurate...

I want to see diaz throw that 10 combination punch, and how many would land....against Julio Diaz, with that combination, at one point he landed 8 out of 10..that was sick!!! Don't know if he could do this to JMM though..

I'm rooting for Diaz------underdog, has heart and will, good kid and doesn't whine!!!:good

    You make some interesting points.

I think we have seen too many jmm fights against southpaws that we have forgotten how good his jab is.
Juan diaz will not be sp quick to rush in when he eats a few hard jabs with straight rights behind them.

This is a close fight but I think marquez takes it

like I've said before Marquez is going to be to much for the bull to handle. Marquez has great footwork and when it comes to a slugfest babybull can hang with the best, but at the end of the night marquez will be victorious.. Too much for babybull to handle and like I've said before I hope Diaz wins but it's going to be a hard battle...

I never said JMM would back Diaz up, would I? In fact I said quite the opposite in my first post in this thread. But the fact still remains that Diaz is still pretty open which allows JMM with more countering opportunities. Whether he backs Diaz up or not is irrelevant. JMM is still gonna score points due to Diaz' tendency to square up when he throws punches.

Also a right hand isnt necessarily effective only on southpaws. Look how effective JMM's right hand was against MAB when they fought. Look at how effective Floyd's right hand was against orthodox boxers. Same with B-Hop. I'm pretty sure its still gonna be a potent weapon come fight night and that Diaz shouldn't underestimate it.

I still lean ever-so-slightly on JMM. But as I said this is more of a 50/50 fight and I wouldn't be suprised at all if your right and Diaz does win.

    His Jab...

Diaz has a great jab, And he likes to turn his opponent's.
(Forcing them to circle when he throws it)

Marquez has a tendency to eat alot of left jab's.. (Left's period)
it's going to be very interesting come SAT. But I defo expect JMM to come out
somewhat swollen around the right eye, win or lose.

I don't believed it's the only way... there's so many ways to kill a cat... that's why I asked if JMM accurate counter punching and ring movement will do the job. I don't think so...

JMM need to throw a lot of punches in order to discourage Diaz which I think he can't do consistently in this fight...

    Juan Diaz wins by decision...

Like what I've posted in the other threads . . . I'm expecting this to be close and I'm picking Diaz.

Diaz is 25 . . . JMM is 35 . . . skill wise JMM kicks Diaz' ass . . . but can JMM fight a 12 brutalizing rounds ??? Diaz cuts the ring well and is a master on how to crowd his opponents . . . so if Diaz survives in the first 6 rounds expect Diaz to out work JMM.

JMM can throw 4 to 5 flurries of punches to stop Diaz on coming in close . . . but if that doesn't stop Diaz . . . JMM is in trouble. Team Diaz knows what JMM is capable of doing and how accurate he is in counter punching . . . so don't expect Diaz to fight in the distance . . . he is going to try to be in JMM's face all the time.

This is JMM by T/KO or Diaz by points . . . I'm picking the later. Barring another cut . . . Diaz has a very good chance.

    well said

i think you nailed it in that diaz cuts the ring off realy realy well because of his good ring generalship and footwork
his footspeed will be his key to win this for sure because i believe his footspeed is quicker than marquez's

will jmm ba able to manouver around the ring well enough on the backfoot at such a quick speed and still land clean crisp counter's?

thats what makes this fight such a good one and one i still believe marquez will win because he is real tough and will no let baby bull controle the tempo and his counters will allow him to do this and slow the pace of the fight down at vitals moments of the fight
he will land more meaningful punches
my prediction jmm wins 12rd ud

That highlighted part there is the key . . . JMM is a tactical fighter . . . not a brawler . . . can he be that accurate for 12 rounds at the age of 35? :D

Just like I said . . . I'm seeing this as JMM by TKO or Diaz by points. Once Diaz cuts off that distance JMM is in trouble . . . if not Diaz gets TKOed.

    . . . bitting the bullet . . . Diaz by points. :D

yes but baby bull has a big heart. He keeps coming that's why he is nickname baby bull. How will marquez handle the pressure is a big question. Diaz is younger and has a lot of energy. You know he will be pumped up for this fight.

I can see why many people would pick JMM to win this fight but i can't underestimate this kid. Plus dont forget this fight is in houston. Homecook decision is not out of the question:lol:

Look at the juarez-barrios fight. If that fight wasn't stopped. Juarez would have won by decision even though he was getting his azz kick by barrios. :good i wont be surprise if diaz wins on the scorecard
