Your VO2 max is how efficient your body is at transferring oxygen through your body.

His stamina is overrated. He was gassing pretty badly in the Chavez and Macklin fights...but he has terrific handspeed and timing. He throws every punch pretty damn well and with good power.

He STARTED at 20, think about it. A lot of fighters started at what, 8? Sergio has saved himself years and years of damage

    Exactly.

It's dependent on several things, like the size of your lungs, the amount of iron in your hemoglobin, various enzymes, the number of capillaries in your muscles, etc. You are mostly born with what you have, though proper training can help a little.

There are also PED's that can temporarily help, and also training at high altitude, and I think using a hyperbaric chamber. (I'm not 100% sure about that last one.)

    - But there's no reason to think Juan isn't simply a perfect physical specimen, who trained perfectly for this fight, and who also had a game-plan that conserved energy.
Nothing I saw Saturday screamed "Victor Conti." (or "Evander Holyfield")

He's in great shape and is just gifted. But he is on his last legs right?
Maybe 3 good fights left in him?

True that. People underrate the damage kids take in sparring and amateur fights.
