De La Hoya passed the PPV torch onto Mayweather

When pac retires, there won't be anyone who can even come close to competing with the UFC for PPV buys

How can the PPV torch be passed ?

Doesn't help that most of the top boxers (Kovalev, GGG etc) aren't from the americas

They have to fight the very best out there of the next generation and they will lose no problem. At this point Terence Crawford would have a chance to beat Pacquiao and maybe Thurman would beat Mayweather. Unfortunately, Mayweather decided to leave the sport as a winner without passing anything on. He fought Berto. Bradley probably won't beat Pacman but he at least is a top welterweight with a small shot.

Ray Leonard passed the fame to Terry Norris. Tyson and Holyfield passed the flame to Lewis. Julio Cesar Chavez passed the torch to Oscar De La Hoya.

Canelo will likely carry on as a PPV star, even if he looses to Golovkin.
(And i have some doubts as to can Golovkin stop Canelo)
Canelo has headlined 4 PPV“s and generated around 3.7million buys.

By one of the two losing to a rising star, and a rising star that is appealing to the public.

    In reality? Nothing.

The only way it could've been passed on is by someone else beating them soundly that has a future ahead of them.

Losing to old guys with one foot out the door themselves or being robbed against a younger fighter to manufacture a star, like in Pac's case, won't do it. What that does do is make it tougher for a younger fighter who pulls it off legitimately to get the maximum amount of hype for doing it.

And, De la Hoya was a generational level draw that made everyone who beat him much bigger stars. Both Pac and May benefited tremendously from that, and neither would've been the same level of superstar without him. Oscar was a starmaker similar to what Ali was- to the casual fan. doing well against him didn't expose him- it made you that good. Alot of fighters got good mileage off of that halo effect.
