He was just showing he could win if he wanted... It was a sign people to say 'hey, i can beat this bum if i wanted... But just going to collect my check'

You have to be really naive if you dont consider the possibility. Boxing is dirty. It seems like posters of ESB live in a world where "every fighter is clean & a boxer would never throw a fight."

Banks would not throw punches, because he was afraid he would knock Mitchell out. Banks was hitting Mitchell with little baby shots and Mitchell was nearly out on his feet.

No doubt there are fixed fights in Boxing. I just don't think this was one of them. Unless someone got to banks in the middle of the fight. He was going for the K.O. early, and he almost got it.

Banks is a counter puncher Mitchell didn't give him much to counter this time. Was a bad fight for both guys and Mitchell was hurt about three times fro what were not much more than flurries. He is going nowhere and neither was Banks had he won.

I like what I saw from Seth. He has an atrocious chin but manage to whether the storm and take the fight. His career was almost over.

It's better for business for Banks to keep the cuffs on, take an L (and little damage), then get paid for managing Wlad against Mitchell (in another easy fight) than it would be for him to beat Seth and then get beat by another contender, which is the reality of where Banks is at as a fighter.

I'm not one who believes every fight's a fix by any stretch, but first and foremost, boxing is a business where lives and livelihoods are at stake. Naively dismiss the possibility of a smart business decision just because it doesn't fit your moral compass of ethical boxing at your own risk.

Nope. Banks, like Mitchell, has a shaky chin, and he was afraid to really engage Mitchell, because he knew - like Mitchell himself knew - that if he did, he would likely get KTFO.

So they basically both were trying to avoid getting their fragile chins shattered, which is why the fight ended up the way it did.

Well then why did Banks bother to KO Seth Mitchell in the first place? And this time he decides, screw it, I'm going almost KO him again but be very, very, careful not to actually put him down for the count? What are the economics of that?

What happened is that Banks is a counterpuncher who punched himself out early. He had little left and oh by the way he doesn't have all that fiery a character to begin with. The whole "fix" angle is silly.

How do I compare Clottey-Pacquiao to this? Because people were making the same claims about Clottey, that it the fight was "fixed" and that Clottey could hit Pacquaio at will but "threw the fight". It's all nonsense of course.

Hey, you think there's zero chance the fight's fixed. I admire that level of faith in boxing, I just think it may be misplaced. I've explained why it would make financial sense for Banks to hold back this time around. If you don't buy it, don't buy it. :good

Big difference in that fight was Clottey never rocked Pac or showed he was hurting Pac. Banks hurt Mitchell when he threw punches.
