Yeah, and if so then this A.J should fight vs Usyk now. Another excuses? A.J should fight Usyk or vacate belt. Oh, Usyk didn't deserved, he should prove ( let's read get enough old to easier beat him up ) something. Do you think Usyk is not capable to defeat 39 years old Pulev? Or run circles around Ruiz in large ring? Well, then these at least were more close in their age etc. Not like now. Size matters, of course I agree. There still is stuff, why so boring matchups.
Yeah, that makes sense. That's where we are coming from. When it appears we are ripping or unfairly denigrating AJ's resume, there's a context to it that has less to do with what people are saying and more to do with the very similar line Matchroom/Hearn and SKY have been pumping out incessantly for the last few years. (Hearn even goes as far as to emphasise "Eric Molina" as some sort of significant win !) For UK boxing fans especially it is sometimes frustrating because we all have had conversations with the "casual fans" and "AJ fans", and it's nice that AJ has made such a impact in terms of popularity, but the propaganda has misinformed so many of them, the cheerleading from the 'pundits' and ex-pros who work for SKY has been so over-the-top, it just makes a mockery of reasonable assessment. But yeah, there's a similar cult coming to emerge around Fury perhaps, online at least, that goes overboard.
I think a good majority of knowledgeable boxing fans would agree with you. My problem is, when Fury fans act like the Vlad win was a monumental victory for the ages. Good win against a formidable opponent, yes. As great as some fans make it out to be, no. Unfortunately for Fury, the era is weak. He truely can't be pressed to the depths by an equal. With his size, skill and athleticism, he is a unique combination that I haven't seen. A motivated Fury is tough to beat.
2 strong indications of a weak HW era: -Anytime old ass relics make a comeback and actually do alright for themselves. -you have guys moving up from light heavy/cruiser doing alright for themselves. The 90's and the current era had BOTH.
All of this resume measuring will be rendered meaningless when the two of them fight. The winner of the head-to-head will be 'the man', assuming there will be a third fight if the first two are shared....
This. Just because a fighter is old doesn’t mean they aren’t still a threat as history has proven time and time again and often times fighting experienced older fighters helps younger fighters like Joshua improve their own skill set. Kownacki, Whyte, and Dubois all recently found out the hard way what can happen when you underestimate an older fighter that in theory should be easy work.
What kind of bullsh.t is this? The man defeats a 40 year old unskilled shot guy, and next day he is treated like a hero by all sports outlets. Joshua's resume is full of 40 year olds. He took an embarrassing beating last year and was TKFOed. When you watch his fights you notice that he is not in elite level. Lack of competition in today's heavyweight division makes guys like Anthony Joshua take advantage of the situation.
The irony, a couple of fights ago he was beaten from pillar to post by a late obese non ranked sub paid to loose while spitting his mouth piece out and quit but now that he beat the definition of a never was euro bum he is Englands Boxing God.....carry on.........the entire division is poor......all of them including Fury/Wilder etc etc etc
You may not be aware of this but, around the time WK was training for Fury, WK's other half was on virtual suicide watch because of severe Post Natal Depression and left WK not long after, hardly the ideal circumstances for fight camp. This just might have had a baring on WK's mentality going into the fight and I would argue that although older, WK was in considerably better condition for the AJ fight. Many commented at the time on how well conditioned WK looked. Just a couple of things to consider..... perhaps.
Prior to last week end he'd suffered only one defeat and beaten Hughie Fury and Chisora as comfortably as most their other opposition. I get that Pulev's not all that but, he had done what he had to do to maintain his mandatory position. I don't see what all the arse hole is about.
Yeah I agree but, aren't Whyte, Kownacki and Dubois complete and utter bobbins and will never be a threat to anything above the top 50 because of their recent defeats to old, shot fighters?
Joshua and Fury are in the main fighting what's been put in front of them. There have been the odd fight not happen for unfathomable reasons but, on the whole they're not that far removed from the fighters in other eras, that is of course as long as they fight each other.
