Unbelievable. There were even rounds but not 6. Maybe 3 even rounds. The other ones were clearly Kov rounds. It was a Kov fight. Maybe not a robbery but Ward could not fight a Ward fight. It was a Kovalev fight.
You give Ward 6 rounds he still loses. Somehow judges gave him 7. He came back great and for that I take my hat off but he didn't win the fight.
I agree with you, actually. I don't even want to show my friends this fight because they felt that Porter vs Thurman was a robbery but understood that it could go either way and they handled it better because it was a great fight. This would...probably make them quit the sport I just got them back into.
Ward knew his judges would support him, all he had to do was hold, no points for holding, landing fewer punches, getting knocked down. No wonder the crowd booed the decision................................................
Ok, on Compubox (see the thread) Ward gets to 6 rounds. But Kovalev still should win the fight 114-113 with the knockdown, if you believe those Compubox stats.
Yes, he is a goddamn almost legend for coming back in that fight. But he clearly lost. 8 - 4 or 9 - 3 ish with a knockdown. Kovalev timed him from the beginning like he did with Hop and Ward showed his greatness by dealing with that. Boxing fans know what happened. Calzaghe went to school one day. It's not the same here today but Ward met his daddy tonight. If that ain't right, none ain't.
Not sure what fight you watched but Kovalev doesn't have a x3 multiplier on his punches landed. Ward outlanded him most rounds of the fight, and in the second half of the fight Kovalev thought hew as a freestyle wrestler instead of a boxer. Kovalev doesn't get points for wrestling, and while he is wrestling he wasn't being offensive. It's Kovalev's own fault he lost. He didn't even follow his corners instructions due to stubborness.
He only needed to win 6, and he clearly won the first two. The next 10 were closer, but Kovalev clearly did enough to win at least four of them. I thought he won the majority of them.
