Being 23-years-old with 42-0-1 record and 8 (EIGHT!!!) years of pro experience if: 21-years-old Fernando Vargas with only 17 pro fights and only 2 years and 9 months of pro experience wasn't too green for Winky Wright? 22-years-old Muhammad Ali with only 19 pro fights and only 3 years and 4 months of pro experience wasn't too green for Sonny Liston? 23-years-old Evander Holyfield with only 11 pro fights and only 1 year and 8 months of pro experience wasn't too green for Dwight Qawi? Of course, Saul has become better since 2013, but lets not act as if his age and lack of experince were the main factors that enabled Floyd's lopsided win. The different in skills was the main factor of Floyd schooling Canelo so badly + his style being the hardest one for Canelo - he always looked less than impressive against slick boxers and always will
Well, he was too green, obviously. Canelo had a solid career up to that point but he had never faced anyone remotely as good as Floyd. He had just recently stepped up his competition. Floyd was the best boxer on the planet.
Bro, Canelo is P4P#1, he surpassed GGG, Kovalev, Usyk, Loma, Crawford in terms accomplishments and status. He KTFO Kovalev last Saturday making him LT HW champion. 5 divisions north of where he started fighting pro. He is winner of 2019 Epsy award. Will be fighter of the year, and will be fighter of the decade. Just deal with it and witness a ATG in the making.
It’s not so much about age or years as a pro as it is about who he had fought to that point. His only real legitimate opponent was Austin Trout. And I don’t want to hear nonsense that Floyd wasn’t in his prime anymore, this guy was in his prime pretty much his entire career.
Yes, but Vargas never fought anyone even remotedly close to Wright's level, Ali (Clay) enever fought anyone even relatively close to Liston's level and Holyfield never fought anyone even relatively close to Qawi's level. The gap in class between Alvarez' best opponents and Mayweather was closer than the one for Vargas, Ali and Holyfield, and they had WAY less pro experience. Yet, they managed to win those fights while Canelo wasn't even remotedly competetive against Floyd
But Holyfield, Ali and Vargas took even bigger steps in class when they faced those guys. And they still managed to win while Canelo was comptetely outclassed by Floyd
Canelo is P4P#1, Epsy boxer of the year, Lineal MW champion, LT HW champion as of last Sat. and will undoubtedly be fighter of the year and of the decade. Live with it.
Only a idiot would believe Canelo is the same fighter that fought Mayweather, Hell Canelo isn't even the same fighter from the first ggg fight, he has gotten better.
And? No one is saying that Ali, Holy and Vargas weren´t rushed. They proved they belonged at that level and they pulled it off. Canelo fought the best boxer in the world and got schooled. It is fair to say that he was too green. And then there is also the fact that both Ali and Holyfield were Olympic gold medallists. Vargas didn´t medal at the Olympics but he still had a solid amateur career.
But some of Canelo's fans brings it (being green) as the main factor of Floyd beating him. Like if he would have been 3 years older and had more experience on the top level he would have definitely beaten a fighter who arguably beat him by 12-0 margin - that's my point
The fact Floyd fought Canelo should raise suspicion, like all his opponents, or his last 10 anyway, there was always something with the little runt..Beterbiev v Gvozdyk is an example of what Floyd wouldn't do, chose an opponent that's a prime belt holder, well seasoned and good to go, no checking out his last fights looking for slippage or "seeing something", just a straight forward elite match up, the EE way, these British and Americans are fannys in comparison !
Only a idiot would believe the Kovalev Canelo fought is the same fighter that fought Pascal, Hell Kovalev isn't even the same fighter from the first Ward fight, he has gotten much worse.
Yea, **** those guys. It´s always the same BS with almost every fight(and I mean every fight, not just when Canelo fights). "Had it been in location x" "Had it been at x weight" "Had it been 3 months prior" "Had he been younger" Blah, blah, blah. Always a ton of excuses...
I agree. 42 fights he is green, yet 40 fights on another person like Wilder is simply tomato-can stacking. I'm thinking what experience did Clay have to compete with Liston? Who did Floyd beat to compare to Hernandez, Chavez to beat Rosario, who did Holy beat in 12 fights to warrant a title shot with Qawi? Sometimes experience doesn't come in the form of (x) amount of fighters with (x) style. If I were to flip the script: who could Canelo had fought to give him the experience to fight Floyd? IMO no one. Few years longer and it wouldn't be legit to fight a guy 15 years into his career. Prime Floyd whoops Canelo at any stage of Canelo's career. Not about style, not about being green. He lost to an exceptional athlete, point blank.
