Canelo was a bigger favorite (-420) vs Kovalev than Mayweather was vs Canelo (-300)

I don't know about Vargas, but I know Holyfield and Ali both had extensive amateur backgrounds

Theres a bit of historical revisionism with this fight.

You can't call a 23 year old with that many fights and a world title "green"

Sure, he hadn't fought anyone as good as Floyd....how could he have? Floyd was the best on the planet!

For a 36 year old Floyd who was outweighed by about 15lbs in the ring by Canelo, to totally dominate like that was exceptional.

Canelo had fought a bunch of solid contender types, and past it champions, and beat Trout who was coming off the Cotto win.

Floyd didn't come anywhere close to totally dominating Canelo. Saying that Floyd dominated Canelo is an egregious example of historical revisionism.

This was an extremely close match and the amount of historical revisionism when it comes to this match is off the charts.

    Extremely close??

Because CJ Ross was being CJ Ross??

Alvarez AT BEST won 4 rounds. If you consider that "dominating" or "comprehensively beaten", etc that's your call.

Mayweather performance made him look green. He was far from green. He wasn't prime either yet, but Mayweather was past his prime. That fight actually made him better and made him change up by adding new wrinkles to his styles.

Canelo won about 3 or 4 rounds, give or take. That's a lot of rounds to win vs Mayweather. That's more rounds that practically anyone has ever won against Mayweather. Several other rounds were close that Mayweather edged. Canelo lost but it was far from a domination. He fought well and took Mayweather to the limit. But Mayweather made adjustments and got a hard fought win.

I think people were calling Canelo green because he was so weight drained.

    I wouldn't call him green

But he certainly wasn't at the peak of his ability yet

That said I don't think canelo could beat floyd at any point in floyds active career

Man, I've been saying this for years! The example I use is Salvador Sanchez. Mirrors Canelo very well.

Just an excuse for Floyd haters to de-legitimatize the win. Canelo couldnt carry Floyd’s jock strap.

I didn’t see your post originally but was about to say the same thing. Canelo didn’t get dominated. It was a close fight. I don’t think Floyd had any interest in a rematch. Canelo is a better (smarter) fighter today than he was back then. He was also drained in that fight. Floyd is too old and too retired and Canelo is too big today but I always wished they would have rematched. I did think Floyd won the fight but it wasn’t as wideout dominant as the Floyd ball gobblers would have you think.
