Although povetkin has received criticism for not stepping up and fighting the top opponents for a few years of his career, he has now amounted a decent record
    Chambers
    Byrd
    Chagaev
    Boswell
    Huck
    Charr
    Takam

How close is this Vitali's best wins? Or has he surpassed Vitali's record?

Vitali's resume also consists of being a dominant world champion, as well as having a major pause due to injury and then coming back and dominating the current titleholder in his first fight. He is also one of the greatest fighters, I wouldn't say that Povetkin is on par with him.

I'm not talking about who is the better fighter, but looking at their records.
comparing their best wins, I'm not sure vitali comes out on top

Well, in that case, Povetkin might overall have the better opponents on his record (not sure, some analyses would be required I guess), especially if the amateurs are included as well.

If Povetkin had of beaten Wlad and Vitali he may well have been considered the GOAT.

Byrd, Chambers, Chagaev, and Takam would stack up nicely to Vitali's best wins, which would include Sanders, Peter, Adamek, etc.

Vitali has much more depth in "decent contenders" beyond their top wins, though. And he generally dominated much more than Povetkin in his fights.

Vitali's resume is ****. Having a better resume than him isn't some huge accomplishment.

Charr got KO'd by Povetkin. Arreola lost to Stiverne twice. Solis lost to Grandpa Thompson.

Not close (In approx order and placing Povetkin's wins at comparable level)

    Peter WBC Champ ------Chagaev (faded)
    Sanders------------------Byrd (faded)
    Adamek------------------Chambers (i think JCG is a much tougher H2H)
Kirk Johnson (better win than the Byrd or Chambers ones IMO)
    JC Gomez
    Hide-----------------------Huck
    Donald (better version)--Donald (faded)
    Solis----------------------Takam
    Chisora
    Arreola
    Williams------------------Boswell
    Charr---------------------Charr

You equate Solis to Takam? Really? Takam is much better.

Mostly a potential thing but i agree you could move Huck up beside JCG and place Takam Hide level. I think Takam is better than Chisora or Arreola but we'll have to wait and see if it proves true.

    Hide over Huck??? lmfao.

And Sanders was beyond faded. More than Chagg who has a strap now , so Chagg > Sanders as well.

Soils lost to Thompson. TT lost all 12 rounds to Tackam.
    Tackam > Solis.

There is so much wrong with this,
    Chambers beat Peter
    Kirk Johnson better than Byrd?
Solis on par with Takam? Despite beating thompson?

Povetkin's wins over Chambers, Byrd, Takam, Chagaev

    does indeed stack up with

Vitali's wins over Sanders, Peter, Adamek, ?

By no means is it saying that Povetkin is better or almost as good. Vitali has the overwhelming depth of quality wins beyond their top 4-5, but an argument to Povetkin's top isn't the most outrageous thing I've ever heard on these forums. I've long felt Vitali's best victories are weak given how great he was.
