Floyd aint shot.. That a silly statement.. Shot fighters are usually the ones that take beatings and go trhough a lot of Wars in their career.. Floyd is simply 40 years old thats all so obviously he is past his prime.. Still better than all of them and Id have him winning against most WW's today.. Now THAT would cause for him to be SHOT.. Fighting past your prime will do that to you since hes abilities are not there to the fullest anymore.. But I think some of y'all are basing this on his fight last Saturday.. Listen this fight was a farce all along.. Floyd knew he was going to toy with Mcfooker and he knew going forward like that he would take some shots.. He also knew this was his last fight and he didn't give a f**k... Trust me if it would've been a rematch with Manny or any other real boxer in the game he would've fought a hell of a lot different..
Looking like he did Saturday, Thurman and a few others. However, I am not convinced that given a proper training camp targeting a high level boxer at 147 or 154, that he would not still be quite formidable.
I've been going back and forth on this since Saturday a bit. He mentioned in the post-fight presser that he didn't spar at all for the last month. It seems like he hit the body bag with Nate Jones, hit the heavy bag, shadow boxed, and got himself into good physical shape. Didn't seem to be a proper camp - he was facing a novice afterall. That said, I don't know how his body (his hands in particular) would respond to a proper camp. Clearly he's very declined; timing is way off, reaction time/reflexes are A LOT slower, and his offense is fairly average and basic at this point. The legs are stiff, movement isn't really fluid, and he doesn't have much spring in his step. I'd say he's pretty damn close to being shot. If he isn't now, he's on the verge. It was apparent in the first Maidana fight onwards that he declined from the Cotto/Canelo versions of himself. At this point, I wouldn't favor him to beat Spence, Crawford, Thurman, Charlo, Lara, and Andrade. May lose to some others as well. Seriously doubt it happens, but if he came back looking for a big payday in a year or two against whoever emerges as the top welterweight, I could very well see him at the receiving end of a Hopkins-Kovalev type loss. I could even see Spence Leonard-Camachoing him.
Don't know about shot but he's way past his best and he knows it too. He won't risk coming back v a proper boxer for chump change to potentially lose.
Agree with everyone else welterweight is a hard class to be sub par in and more than likely he would get bashed up nowadays. He knows that and pretty much said it in the build up. All he needs is a bit of FMW to get rid of this chump
Very close and I think he's aware of the danger of being shot, which is why he never walks around without his goons. "Just a scared little man" and rightfully so. I've got a better question, how long until he figures to pull a "hat-trick" in disgusting rip-off PPV's and give the world another fight it so desires to see?
Fantastic reply! Yeah, even offensively he looked terrible. That surprised me a lot. And his legs are definitely leaving him. His IQ is miles ahead of every other fighter at 147, but his body can't keep up. Anyone see a RJJ/Tarver II scenario if he comes back within 12-18 months?
He is a tremendous businessman and he's brilliant at waiting and letting things unravel in his favour. Unless he rematch Conor in MMA, fights Cotto again (he should, he'd get a title as his last fight) or the Canelo/GGG winner at a catch-weight with a hydration clause, he will have to stay retired as there are no other easy options.
I think he catches Porter. Porter is too damn wild, and should be at 140 with his frame. He'd soon slow Porter down as he is miles ahead of him in terms of ring smarts.
Floyd is quite shot. He toyed with Conor yes. But still looked "horrible" to Floyd standars(when he started to fight after 6-7rounds) Soon 41. Fights at weighclasses were youth is more important than in bigger weighclasses. Maybe top10 WW at this point. But man is retired so it does not matter. and as somebody mentioned before.Canelo was Floyd last "Floyd standard perfomance" was afwul against both Pac and Berto(who both are shot too)
I think he'd be the underdog against a few guys these days, and that's the first time you could say that. I think a young hungry fighter with some skill like Spence or Thurman could beat him. I don't think easily.. but they got youth on their side and I don't think Floyd is as quick as he was even 2 years ago. I mean you think about it, he would have handled Maidana with ease 6 years ago.
no he wasnt. He was world class, and consequently could beat or match/compete with world class fighters like Calzaghe and Pavlik. When he stepped up to elite with Kovalev and arguably "backdoor" elite Dawson, he struggled horribly. Yet when you go back to anytime in his 30s, he was able to compete with and beat elites
