Floyd is retired so I think he knows the answer to this...

I think he's pretty much shot and I couldn't pick him with any confidence over Thurman, Spence or the Brook that Spence beat. As for the top guys at 154/160 well I expect that to end even less well for him at this point.

All that said does it ever end well for 40 year old welterweights who continue to fight?

Not from my experience it doesn't (re: 40 year old fighters at ww).

I always thought Thurman would cause him serious bother. That fight will never happen now.

Anyone think Cotto could beat Floyd?

Yes his wobbly jerky feet in concrete movement was very reminicent of ray v norris.at least rays excuse was a twisted ankle too late to pull out over.ray still had very fast hands v norris, the timing, reflexes and balance deserted him .....but with floyd the speed was gone too....he didnt look half the fighter he was with berto.he appears shot unless as suggested by some he was deliberately carrying mcgregor to make it competitive and pave the way for future paydays for both

Is it far fetched to consider the possibility that what some see as a shot Mayweather could very well be equivalent to a prime Gatti or a prime Pazienzia?

Yes, he's close to shot. Thing is that he was so good as his best that even the nearly-shot version is a top WW.

But the best at 147 and 154 beat him now, Spence, Thurman, Crawford, etc.

Void should fight a legit fight if he wants it to go on his record, Conor should in no way go on his record...................What if Marciano had fought a fighter with a 0-0-0 record?

He Is done. As stated above, Crawford and Spence both beat him at this point, IMO.

If Void stays out of the wrong streets, he should not get shot!

Agree that Canelo was definitely his last great performance where he looked like an ATG on the eye test and showcased deep skill. I think this final bout of inactivity and additional 2 years of age is what did it. It's no accident he picked McG, along with bringing more money than any other fight, as this last opponent so far removed from the ring. He was still good enough to thoroughly beat Pac of 2+ years ago and his form against Berto was still high class. WW Floyd often fights his opponents' fight to beat them (Hatton, Mosley, Cotto, Canelo, Maidana I) and that's what a slower and inaccurate 40 year old Floyd did against McG, who certainly impressed me here doing much better along the way to my exact prediction.

Being "shot" is relative. So, yeah, 40 year old Floyd is finally shot.

At the end of the day no matter what sport it is and no matter who the person is, eventually age will catch up with them and they won't be the same. I know its hard to admit it but Floyd is past his best and the current top dogs at WW (spence + Thurman) would probably beat him, there's a reason he came back to fight a novive and not a top boxer. The Floyd that beat Canelo beat anyone from 140-154 with ease, The floyd that beat Pacman would probably beat everyone from 140-154, but being 40 years old now, the Floyd that beat Mcgregor wouldn't beat Crawford, Spence, Canelo and Thurman and probably a few others.
