weren't. No 40something is elite. 40s hopkins lost CLEARLY to dawson, who isnt a real case for elite, and more than once if we are being realistic, and marginally to calzaghe, similarly. No way does he lose to these world classers when prime and full of beans. gettng back on topic, 40something Mayweather is absolutely NOT elite, dont pretend otherwise meatheads. Hes 2nd tier world class now until he proves otherwise, and believe me, he wont prove it for a very good reason.
He's shot to **** from what he was 5-7 years ago. He should not fight again. He has nothing more ever to prove. He's The Best Ever
I agree but I was factoring in Jones being roided to the gills and his eye pokes rendering Usyk all but blind in both eyes.
The foregoing has nothing to do with whether he was elite or not. You are confused between the terms ELITE and PRIME. You can argue back and forth on when a boxer is prime. A boxer is elite when he is in the top five or so of his division. If the division is rich in talent, the elite pool could reach down to the top ten. In 2006, Hopkins was the Ring and linear champion at 175, clearly an elite LHW. He ranked higher than the also elite, Antonio Tarver. He was in his 40's at the time. He as also, at the time, ranked #5 in the pound for pound list, ahead of Barerra, Marquez, and the undefeated Ricky Hatton, all of whom were elite. Of course he was elite.
There is nothing left of Void, way back Oscar beat the hell out of him, even Mayweather, Sr. admitted that Oscar out pointed Void, but Void had his Vegas criminal judges, the same criminal who have cheated so many fighters over the years.............
you are confusing world class with elite, whilst pretending its me who is confused. Elite is a group who can beat anyone except perhaps other elites. This may include the top five, it may not. he of course WASNT, since he got beaten by two world classers (dawson handily, and joe albeit by narrowest of margin in joes case).Elites dont get beaten by world classers again and again - a one off is allowable. Its inherent in the meaning of the world in boxing.
Anyone basing anything on that fight, hasn't really given it much thought. Floyd had been off 2 years, didn't spar, didn't take Ariza into camp, and fought in 1st gear. It was, if looking at the fight rather than the event, a pretty poor sparring session. Does Floyd still have it? Who knows, he didn't need to have it to beat McGregor, his Dad coulda done that. He gave McGregor a few rounds to make it look like a fight. But if Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi or any elite athlete didn't play for 2 years, then didn't do match specific training, they'd look seriously diminished. Likewise Floyd.
You are one of the more confused twits on this board, Herol Bollocks ! The elite are the best of the division, including the linear champion, who, until defeated, is the most elite in the division. Even by this misinformed definition, BHop was elite in July of 2006, after beating Tarver to become linear champion at LHW. He was in his forties and had not lost to either of Calzaghe or Dawson. You truly are a gormless gobshyte, aren't you. Bernard was a top 4 lb for lb, never having slipped below number 4, for three consecutive years, all in his 40's. Not only was he an elite LHW, he was elite across all of boxing for three consecutive years, all in his early forties. When it comes to this stuff, you can't tell your sorry as$ from a hole in the ground, can you ? Why don't you put up a poll like someone did with the term FLOORED, and subsequently got laughed off the forum.
getting personal eh. failed comeback. the elite are the ones who only get beat by other elites, by and large. This probably overlaps with your definition to some degree, but they are categorically NOT the same. Calling 38 year old retired Corrie Sanders the best of the "elite" is a testament to the failure of your statement, when he couldnt get close to elite whilst prime. bhop had the ring title and ibo. IBO is CLEARLY, BLATANTLY, INCONTESTABLY 2ND TIER. AS IS A MAGAZINE TITLE. your argument destroys itself. that might explain why u went on a self obsessed rant straight after to make up for your lack of an effective argument, so thats forgiven --
Floyd is like the 1977 version of Ali well past his best but not totally shot. He could still beat some good fighters but is no longer the best.
There should be a poll "Why is Herol so thick?" with the following options: 1) Dropped on his head as a baby 2) Sniffs glue in his lunch break 3) Tried self hypnosis and then watched Dumb & Dumber 4) His brain was stolen by zombies and he never realised it or 5) All of the above.
Around 60% what he was in 2015. I'd say he'd still make easy work of any MMA guy for the next 8-10 years.
