How tight was the fight? Jeffries scored the only knockdown,[ in the 3rd, ]and landed the heavier blows , but Choynski is described as landing more punches.
I had read that Jeffries should have edged the match and that the draw was maintained for gambling purposes. Now on this site I see conflicting reports on who won. What does Adam Pollock's book say on the matter?
Draw seems to have been a fair verdict in a close fight. Off my notes on the newspapers-- W. W. McNaughton--"Bout ended in a draw and Referee McDonald's decision was a just one." Tom Sharkey--"Referee McDonald rendered a just decision." Joe Goddard--"The Decision was just." SF Call--"Choynski most assuredly scored the most points . . . and certainly had the better of the night's work." I have no notes naming Jeff as getting the best of it, but I'm sure there must have been some. Seems it was probably a pretty even fight.
