At the time of the stoppage, how close was that fight? I really don't think it was a one-sided blowout as a lot of people think it was, and the overall punchstats were 132-124 for Vitali, with 115-82 in power punches. Vitali threw 502 punches and Byrd 284.
vitd had the edge as you might expect from a guy with such massive physical advantages over a guy who had fougth at MW and LHW. but it was a small edge.
2 rounds to Byrd, the rest to Vitali. What I found strange was that all Vitali had to do was survive by this point. Still, one of only two blemishes on his record. Definitley made up for his mistakes later on in his career
No one had Byrd ahead. Judge: Melvina Lathan 83-88 Judge: Dr Ruben M Garcia 82-89 Judge: Joachim Jacobsen 83-88 Harold Lederman, HBO's unofficial judge, had Klitschko ahead 88-83 at the time of the stoppage. So 3 or 4 had it exactly the same 88-83. It was not a hard fight to score.
its a small edge, given byrds plan to make vitali miss was working. let me know if you think his plan didn't work.
This is a case where I think the scorecards don't paint the full picture. A lot of the rounds Vitali simply nicked away due to being the aggressor and just barely outlanding him.
This is a simple case of Tyson/Tillis here,a one sided fight that wasn't close but not all that entertaining...it is of note Vitali improved after this fight,he tightened up his defense and accuracy and hit with more explosive power,it doesnt matter if he missed he landed more and predseed Byrd, had byrd traded with vitali it would have been lights out he was slightly wobbled a few times before the bell.Wlad at this point may have actuially been better,it was the slight preparation and adjustment vitali made that made him the better fighter over Wlad after this fight.
vitalis skills have always been rudimentary, but hes strong and brutal, and initially when young, brave. nothing changed after byrd except he got older, slower, weaker, less fitter like all gods creatures. The only other thing, an extrinsic rather than a personal attribute, that changed was the quality of his opposition, which plummeted as he aged. but don't get me wrong - I agree that vitali was ahead, and would have won if he hadn't fallen for byrds plan
All Vitali did was outwork him. Byrd was making him miss through the entire fight & had zero problems withstanding the few flush shots Vitali did land.
Vitali was just starting to fight the top guys at that point,Vitali became a sharper fighter after Byrd.
Vitalis opponents plummeted with age?his resume disagrees with you.As far as his skills you simply are not really studying his fights, you said he slowed as with all gods creatures yet even Wlad can easily prove you wrong on that one and they sghare some traits as fighters.
