I haven't seen either bout, how did you view and score them?

Had the first fight 6-3-1 for Robinson and the second fight 10-5 for Robinson.

You've seen both? That's interesting news.

I must disappoint you and say that I've never seen either fight. The thread starter just seemed to assume that they are readily available for viewing which is not the case. Very small chance of either fight existing on film.

To answer the thread in a more serious manner, I would say that the first fight was very close, with Robinson arguably not giving his best effort, and the rematch was a clear but competitive decision win in favour of Robinson, who landed his best shots on Gavilan without being able to discourage him. Still enough for him to win a 9-6, 10-5 type of a decision by most accounts.

    haha, greata, i'm with mcgrain. you're a *****

have to agree from what i've heard, they were very close but robinson shaded both. from what i've read, the consensus is that robinson would always win but BARELY win

Yea Gavilan said that Robinson told him after the fight it was the hardest punch he's hit some with. And Gavilan just kept comin at him

Is there any reason to believe footage of either of these fights is out there?

I believe John Garfield said he saw one or both of those fights. He said the first fight was close-ish, but Robinson did a number on him in the rematch.

Reports do vary rather wildly on what kind of edge Robby had in either fight, but in the end, most reports generally agreed that he deserved both decisions.

I understood the first bout wasn't to be found but the second was out there,,,I guess I was wrong there. What interested me were reports of the first go going down to the wire with the Kid not having come prepared as well as he would have liked.
