How come Andre Ward never fought Kovalev straight away at 175?

Indeed, he was asking Golovkin to move up and fight him straight away but needs tune ups to fight Kovalev, and don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizng Ward for having tune ups. I think it's a smart and the right move for him, just that his fans and himself need to have a moment of clarity to see what they were asking of GGG lol.

Ward didn't need tune ups for smith and that cuban. I guess ggg didn't need tune ups for froch and chavez as they were not as good as ward.

Ward also fought a weight-drained Chad Dawson at 168 but was unwilling to fight Golovkin at 160. Ward never applies the same standards to himself that he applies to others.

YDKSAB.:deal Chad was the one who offered to fight at 168, and Ward accepted. GGG throws 154-168 yet declines and requests a CW of 164 for Ward, while being very vocal about fighting Froch and Chavez Jr at the full limit of 168. Smarten up.

G wasn't off for 19 months! You can't expect a fighter to be off that long and move up to fight a beast like Kovalev? Ward would have some big ones to do that! Ward is too calculating to do something like that. Besides, I want to see both men at their best! No excuses about ring rust or not fully acclimated to the weight. Just 2 men in the best shape going at it!

The main reason Ward wanted tune ups was due to his inactivity. Not because he was moving up. Nice try though. Little g wanted to fight Frohc, and Chavez Jr straight away, said he'd fight anyone from 154-175, don't make these claims, also GGG would have had time for tune ups, since Ward himself wanted tune ups before a big fight due to inactivity.

Why didn't Golov. take on DeGale in his first fight at 168?

...Oh wait, he never moved up, scratch that.

    People this new to boxing?

"Why take the dangerous money making fight when you can maximize the revenue milking the next few bouts leading up to the dangerous money making fight, which will net the same or greater value a year or two from now?" -thoughts of every promoter/manager who is in this situation

Yet some of you just can't accept reality and past precedent, over and over, from your favorite and your least favorite fighters alike.

From my point of view, I will just be glad if the fight happens. If Ward wants a few tune-ups, that will help build up the fight a bit - fair enough.

What does this fight have to do with Little G?

Ward has conquered one division and is now attempting to conquer a second. That's something to praise him for, not a stick to beat others for.

G didn't wanna move up, so what? Most fighters in history don't even become champion in one division let alone two.

even kova fans would not want ward to fight kova straight away in his first 175 fight... it detracts from the possible win with the "never fought at this weight" excuse

now that he has some good scalps and we have seen him fit into 175 nicely we can safely say that the possible excuse is off the table

    its simple really

lil g gets talked about like some atg that knocks guys out all the way to 175...hes on p4p lists...and his resume suggests hes a 26 year old prospect a promotional outfit is trying to build......stop trying to compare him to "most fighters in history".....thats like saying "most quarterbacks in history dont end up starting in the nfl"......yeah thats true....cept they talk about lil g like hes peyton manning, tom brady and montana all wrapped in one....but hes playing high school ball

fighting ward, which was totally feasible and realistic, would have proven something....that would have been a great fight...the excitement on the same levels of kova/ward.....but lil g was afraid...of a loss

its easy for lil to g to run around saying anyone to 168...and try to make fights with froch and chavez....while ward in on the shelf......its easy now for him to talk about fighting zurdo...now that ward is gone to 175

ward/kova is proof that ward is the one who dares to be great...the one with nuts....and lil g's best possible fight is fighting a 26 year old kid who lost to the only guy on his resume anyone has ever heard of.....

So now that you can't call him a p*ssy now because he signed to fight Kovalev, this is the new way to bash at him? If he fought Kovalev right after Smith, you'd be claiming he doesn't deserve to fight the LHW king without beating a contender first.

Look at this stupid bitter troll mad that he can't bash ward anymore about ducking kovalev. A troll like you would rather the fight not happen just so you could continue your agenda.
