When he fought at 140, Tzyu, Hatton, Mayweather, and Vivian Harris were all there and he didn't fight any of them. He's at 147 now. 147 is probably the most talent laiden division in boxing. He has to fight the big dogs in this division. I'm not saying Cotto is scared or unwilling, but the fact of the matter is when he fought at 140 the division was loaded and now he's fighting in a loaded WW division. Top rank has shown that they will put young stars in there with good fighters(Mayweather, DLH). The only dangerous fighters that Arum seems to be lining up for Cotto are other Top Rank fighters. This leads me to believe that Cotto's handlers might not have the utmost confidence in their fighter. If Cotto wants to be an elite fighter he has to at least fight a legitimate champion. So far he has not done that(he has only won two vacant "titles").
Easy - Cotto lets his promoter do the work. Just like Morales and DLH did. Thankfully Cotto has a promoter who does take risks.
Cotto's toughest challenge to date was Judah.....other than that he really hasn't done much.....he is a good fighter though and i would like to see him against Hatton rather Floyd vs Hatton. The only knock i have on Cotto is this...he simply gets hit and stunned a awful lot and when does start fighting caliber fighters....such as Mosley, Floyd, Hatton, Margarito, or even Williams...these fighters actually are as gifted if not more gifted than him and could very well beat him and make him look very bad.
So jermain wants to get well compensated for fighting the best and that means that he is not fighting them? There is no one out there that you can say that Taylor should have fought and didn't
I love the people who think Cotto's chin is a major problem. How about we look at it another way? #1 - The reason he seems chinny is because he isn't a safety first fighter. He is gonna walk through your shots, or try to, because he knows if he keeps doing it, you are gonna wear down mentally and physically. When he does get buzzed on occasion, it's cuz he gets laced with some massive bombs (Excluding the Corley temple shot), bombs that would straight out drop most others. ( For anyone who doubts this, rewatch the Judah fight. He was buzzed 2, maybe 3 times, in this fight, yet he got hit with several other bombs and took them well.) #2 - His ability to recover is second to none. I've never seen a fighter do the "Judah" shuffle one second, and within a short period of time is dictating the action and pressing again. (Gatti is similar, but he doesn't recover nearly as quick. He just seems to be recovered, because the way he fights back so viciously when hurt.) #3 - The most important attribute Miguel has proven to have is HEART. Name a fighter that buzzed him, knocked him down or straight up hurt him, and went on to finish the fight. The man comes back from adversity like a throwback, a guy fighting for his life. This attribute means everything to a boxer, because without it, even a superior boxer aint worth ****. Cotto isn't perfect, and he hasn't fought an elite or ATG yet, but for his age and number of fights he's doing awesome things. The only people complaining about his chin, or competition are Euro's and clueless haters. How a boxing fan can hate on a guy who takes risks with no reward, always makes fights fun to watch, and shows the heart of a lion is beyond me.
Learn the boxing game...Hatton ran to 147, then Cotto went to 147 and Hatton ran back down....PBF said that Cotto was too green for him....and Vivian Harris got knocked out by Maussa...a fighter Cotto destoyed. KT...didn' t he stop fighting and starred in "Dancing with the Stars" the Aussie version? What else you got Bigreg...:deal
Yea yea the same if cotto beat mrgo you wil exclude margo if cotto beat williams you will exclude williams if cotto beat hatton you will exclude hatton, just like everybody exclude judah.
Good thing this website doesn't hand pick people with a clue to do the posting here. If that was the case, this place would only have 10% of the membership it has now. Where do you think that puts you? Ignorant fool.
Both Hatton and Cotto were at 140 for 5 years together, they could've fought after Hatton fought Tzyu . How come he couldn't fight Harris before he got knocked out? Floyd did say Cotto was green, but tried to fight him afterwards(he was turned down). What was the first thing Cotto's handlers did when he came up to WW? They paid a guy step aside money so that Cotto could fight for a paper title. This move then forced Cotto defend his paper title against sorry ass Oktay Urkal. The thread says "how come Cotto fights anybody?" However, he has not fought any elite fighters, he has not even beaten a legit champ(both titles were vacant when he won them). I'm not blaming it all on Cotto, but you can't say he fights anybody, when he hasn't fought any top tier fighters.
A lot of people did, but they've mostly shut up or disappeared by now. I'd say 30 - 40% of the people on here thought Judah was going to win though.
Cotto is being brought along just fine, He's been fighting good fighters with different skillsets and has been developing. Regarding him and Hatton both being at 140 for a while, apparently his management didn't think he was ready at the time or the money wasn't there yet regardless. For the latter part of his 140 campaign, he was obviously draining to make that weight as his body filled out, and developing as a fighter. To those that critisize Cotto, would you prefer that he had been brought along like a Mugabi or Cooney, to have been thrown in over his head possibly too soon, and ruin a potentially good fighter. He seems positioned well in a pretty good welterweight division for some great fights and paydays. Love Cotto and his come to fight workman ethic, no bitching complaining etc. Also seems like a good guy, as much as you can tell. Reminds me of Hagler and other throwback fighters in that context.
are you ******ed? Cotto had half the fight hatton had at the time...and also Hatton didn't call out Cotto, **** he would'nt even mention his name, so what the **** are you talking about?...he wasn't fighting anywhere but England and he called the shots...not a new jack like Cotto. If Hatton really wanted Cotto the fight would've happened...but of course hatton pussed out. Why is it that all of a sudden Cotto is the one who controls who fights him...All Harris wanted was PBF...he talked alot of ****, but was only gunning for the big dogs...he didn't want Cotto...at the time he wanted bigger and better things but Ko'd anyway. BTW why are you questioning Cotto for not fighting an elite...when ****ing hatton didn't fight an elite until he was almost at 40 wins...why the double standard? If you take KT out of the equation...his resume would be **** compared to Cotto's
