How come Floyd Mayweather never gave a young lion a "passing of torch" fight?

like Klitschko did for Joshua. The old legend gave AJ, the young lion a shot at the legend but Floyd never did that.

    why?

Wlad was not the belt holder when he fought AJ. He was actually the challenger so I'm not sure I get your point. If Wlad was the belt holder giving AJ a shot you'd have a valid point.

Canelo, Ortiz to name a couple. Technically Connor. Floyd’s been fighter younger fights for awhile.

Nope. Floyd is the worst mentor in boxing. Every one of his own personal prospects have become lazy under his wing.
In a perfect world Mayweather gives Crawford a shot or at least hangs around him so he can get some shine.

agreed--floyd's had no success as a mentor.

from what i read about him and observing how he behaves in media events, etc., i wonder if his ego is too fragile to genuinely support a young fighter

eg, presser for tank's last fight: an embarrassing level of ego and insecurity evident from floyd

Floyd and lion don't belong in the same sentence.
He's scared and pounces only when cornered.
The title should be why floyd never give a young cat a shot.

Because he's a selfish ******* who hasn't fought a competitive fighter in a decade. (With one exception, Canelo in 2013.)

2008 top ranked Welters 1.Margarito, 2.Cotto, 3.Mosley: Floyd is "retired."

2009 top ranked Welters 1.Pacquiao 2.Mosley, 3.Floyd, 4.Cotto: Floyd fights the lightweight champ Marquez.

2010 top ranked Welters 1.Pacquiao 2.Floyd 3.Berto, 4.Cotto, 5.Mosley: An old shop worn Mosley gets the shot.

2011 top ranked Welters 1.Pacquiao 2.Floyd, 3.Ortiz?, 4.Berto: Slim pickings that year. Floyd fought #3 Ortiz and then sucker punched him, but let's face it Ortiz was never a threat.

2012 top ranked Welters 1.Floyd, 2.Marquez, 3.Guerrero, 4.Pacquiao, 5.Brook: Hard to imagine Guerrero was ever rated that high. I suspect there was some financial gimmickry to raise his stock for the Floyd fight. In retrospect, I guess Cotto wasn't that bad. Although, at the time, everyone thought he was shot and two classes above his best weight when Floyd got him. Still, Pacquiao or Brook would have been the more difficult fights.

    2013 top ranked Welters Floyd 1.Bradley, 2.Marquez, 3.Pacquiao, 4.Brook, 5.Guerrero, 6.Porter, 7.Thurman, 8.Malignaggi, 9.Maidana:
Welter is filling up again. You've got solid guys who could give Floyd a tough fight in Brook, Porter, Thurman, and of course Pacquiao. So of course Floyd pusses out and picks Guerrero, then does a surprisingly ballsy move of fighting Alvarez, which might be his best win.

    2014 top ranked Welters Floyd 1.Pac, 2.Brook, 3.Khan, 4.Bradley:
Any of the top 4 would be acceptable. Or he could have fought Lara, Trout, or Andrade to defend his junior middle strap. Who does he fight? #9 ranked welterweight Marcos Maidana, twice.

    2015 top ranked Welters 1.Brook, 2.Pacquiao, 3.Khan, 4.Bradley, 5.Thurman:
Floyd plays it safe fighting an old, injured, shell of his former self Pacquiao running and hugging the whole night. Oh, yeah. Then he fought Berto who wasn't top 10.

2016 Top ranked Welters 1.Brook, 2.Thurman, 3. Porter: Mayweather is "retired."

2017 top ranked Welters Brook, Thurman, Spence but Floyd fights an MMA guy with no boxing experience.

Ideally, in the last four years, Floyd should have touched gloves with Brook, Khan, Thurman, Porter, or Spence to pass the torch but he didn't. Sadly, neither has Pacquiao. He fought Horn when he should have been fighting Brook, Khan, Thurman, Porter, or Crawford.

But you can't blame it all on Floyd. Brook, Khan, and Thurman have acted like scared little girls who won't fight each other, when they could have clashed and made names for themselves upping their chances at a big Floyd/Pac fight. You actually see the same cowardice the last ten years of the Klitschko reign where top contenders are reluctant to face each other, because they don't want to lose their perfect records and their shot at a Klitschko fight down the road. Fury was the first guy to find his balls, and then Joshua stepped up when Klitschko was looking beatable.
